Reverend Billy
and the Church of Stop Shopping. The "God-that-is-Not-A-Product" works in mysterious ways.
"Children, I feel the need to go down the street to Urban Outfitters and root out more evil!" he cries, "I have a need ... to exorcise!" Reverend Billy preaches in the streets and subways, spreading the gospel of nonconsumerism. He's currently on tour and organizing flash mobs. Could this form of protest be more effective than old-school consumer activism?

The reverend Billy is definitely a Happening man. "dyed-blonde pompadour" -- Turkmenbashi ashi wears one of these, apparently, though I suspect his is a wig. Coincidence?
-
I did not add that second ashi. It is all very strange again.

Even stranger is the "Passion of the Christ" ad on the NYT story link.
