Nice collection of links homonculus. Thanks. While I think people who promote anarchy are mostly just wasting their time, I've always had a soft spot for the idea. I blame the Sex Pistols.

I am going to reread the collection of contemporary New York Times accounts the next time I hear anybody fulminating against pro-government bias in the U.S. media. A sample headline declares, Meeting of Reds Traps Slackers, with the following article cataloguing the shameful anti-state activities of those trapped Slackers: [...] who during the meeting had shouted and applauded when President Wilson was sneered at, the Liberty Loan denounced, and the army and navy referred to in jeering terms, were meek as lambs and pitifully begged for permission to go home. On the flip, who can read a panegyric to the 1917 Russian Revolution without drowning in irony?

who can read a panegyric to the 1917 Russian Revolution without drowning in irony? Very true. One of the historians on the program described her as "an enlightened fool." Her support was foolish, but when she realized what Soviet Russia really was like she faced up to her mistake and vocally denounced it from then on. Unfortunately PBS still doesn't have the transcript up.

The transcript is now online, and I just quoted the section I refered to above in this MeFi thread.
