I love subways. I miss them very much. My vote goes to Mexico City for favorite subway, in terms of looks, cost and efficiency. But I have never been to Paris or Tokyo, both of which I understand to have good systems.

How did I know there'd be no picture of Marcadet-Poissoniers (my home stop for a year) or Censier Daubenton (next to Uni Paris III)? Must be psychic. Or they must not be particularly photogenic stations. Uglies need love too!

Whoah, memories. I wandered through some of those very same subway platforms as a kid when I got separated from the group during a high school trip to Paris. I couldn't speak a word of French, I had no idea how to navigate the city and I couldn't properly pronounce the school we were staying at. So I bought a 5th Element poster from some dude at the far end of the platform and a bottle of Orangina from the the vending machine, then sulked until I finally decided to get on the next train. I did, and when I stepped of the train a few stops later, I bumped right into a few of my friends who had broken off from the larger group and were exploring the city. This was the mid-90s, so my ensuing cry of "booyah!" was both situationally and time-period appropriate.
