Largest shipment of Sikh holy scriptures makes it to Toronto. The scriptures, called Saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, are only printed at one temple in India and are regarded by the faithful as living--literally, not in the figurative sense. Therefore, they can't fly in baggage.
  • Makes me wonder..where do pets get put when they fly?
  • In stowage, generally.
  • This is fascinating - are they all copies of the same holy book, or 149 volumes of a single text?
  • jb -- The article makes it sound like they are copies of the same book---"The scriptures... will be distributed to various congregations in the Toronto area and several homes of devotees." A couple of sites on Sikhism - Sikh.net Sikhs.org
  • Curious about the life/living quality of the books -- my impression from this is that it's more thsn a figurative expression for Sikhs...?
  • The video clip I saw showed the priest or whatever he's called carrying the book into the plane over his head, and some guy following him with what looked like a big feather duster waving it behind. Then they showed the priest strapping the books in with long scarf looking things (they didn't use seatbelts).
  • From the text of the BBC article, there is talk of setting up a printing press in Canada to deal with the high demand for the Guru Granth Sahib in Western nations. Currently, they are only being made in Amritsar.
