Curious George: New Users
We've have a pretty noticeable influx of new users in the last week or so. As new folks probably weren't around to notice the last times we had a round of introductions, I say it's about time for another one. So how 'bout it, new monkeys? Let's have a short who, what, and where session. Who are you? What do you want to get out of MoFi? Where are you?
-
This is of course compulsory. Non-participants will be subject to bannishment at the discression of, let's say, Fes.

Hmmm, well considering my p00p flinging, monkey pants wearing alterego for a long time on Hotline servers was "Howlermonkey on crack" (you know the nibbler icon on HL looks a lot like one) and that I know the secrets of the lemurs, (caution, following that link may cause irreversible Brian Damage...ok not irreversible, but once Brian's in your head, he's hard to get out) this seemed like a nice little fit. And yes, I'm a longtime lurker of the blue. I think I'd be a little too vociferously and unflinchingly liberal for some of the people there though. I followed a MeTa link here once and thought it was interesting. The trunkmonkey link is what sold me finally and triggered the slow motion signup that got me in the other day. I also like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, run-on sentences and parenthetical statements. cheep, cheep, cheep

My name is Mark, and I am funky. I have my own links blog and appreciate the wonders of the internet in all of its diverse glory. I am naturally drawn to sites like MonkeyFilter. I live in Iowa with my wife (married almost half a year now!) Elly. I am very fond of vintage sci-fi/horror movies. I am particularly fond of the 1950s genre of the film. I watched a lot of "Creature Features" while I was growing up. I turn 42 years old on the 27th of this month. How's that?

Hello, my name is: Steve I have been teaching history in Boston for eight years. I tried to start a "ropeswinging" club "with my friends" in college, but the student government would not recognize us. So, we took over the radio station and had all our favorite bands come play using the station's $25K budget.

Welcome to the Monkeyhouse ya'll. Sit down and partake of the bananas and pop tarts. Excellent introductions. Except for you, Nim. You're a smart-ass. I think you'll fit right in.
-
Hiya. I'm a copyeditor in Istanbul, formerly a high school teacher in Russia, formerly a student in the US. I have a blog, and I've been reading metafilter for a year or so, but only just found out about these monkeys, and here I am.
-
I'm new.
-
Hi folks. Name is Keith. I run an MP3 Blog. I live in Albany NY, but am from Queens, and will be moving back there in June/July. I am a college student, doing an internship. An activist, an organizer, and a political junkie. I showed up at MoFi because forksclovestofu told me to show up here, and because I got sick @ staring at the Mefites through the glass. My first big post was a big thread about booze.
-
My name's Anjanette & I'm from San Francisco... This is my first post...to ANYTHING... Be gentle...:-)
-
This monkeyfilter you speak of. Is this something I need a computer to know about?
-
Hello Monkeys. I'm not exactly new, but I have yet to formally introduce myself. I found MonkeyFilter in March and consider it one of the most delightful sites on the Internet. I love monkeying around. My name is Robert. I live in No.Calif. (Bay Area). I have a beautiful daughter-Evelyn (5). Some of my favorite things are books, blogs and technology. Most of my time is spent trying to be the best dad possible.
-
Hey, PF -- fancy meeting you here! But didn't you mean "I have a blog"? (Needless to say, this is your blog too...)
-
Hi all. Like many others here, I've been following Metafilter for a long time. Gave up trying to join months ago, but still, once in a while, lusted after being able to comment on some posts. So, when I saw the Monkeyhouse's doors wide open, I bolted in. Still have to receive that promised banana crate, though. I frequent a few other boards (mainly this one), am interested in cool tech toys, animation, media. Known to wear a tinfoil hat now and then. My line of work includes torturing pixels so they look nice and shiny. I've seen quite a few interesting posts here, so I don't see a reason to stalk in the morning for an open Meta spot, at least for now.
-
I normally post under small-e "ernie" or "psylux" depending on whats available. I used to consider BoingBoing my HQ until the trolls brought down QT and since then I've puttered around Kottke and the BB Tribe. I *used* to be on FileP*** also until AndreT mysteriously unplugged my login for reasons I can't get fathom but probably inactivity (He wont reply to emails either *sniff*). I've been a long time MeFi listener, now a newbie MoFi caller and I'm quite pleased with the setup here so far. I may try for a MeFi login, but it'd be more for the cookie since its not as crowded here and there is a good mix of the kinds of primates that make me want to walk upright and peer across the savanna, relieving my aching knuckles from all the draggin' and such.

welcome to the lavendar, y'all. if you get bored, aim at fes when flingin' poo. the results are interesting.

Greets to all. I am an independent film producer in Austin, TX. Well, I say film producer - that presumes that we actually make money at it. I'm also an actor at times, as well. The other portion of my life is taken up working as a freelance web designer/programmer. Which means I have plenty of time to kill, so that's why I come to sites like this. No wife, no kids, no pets, no money. Altogether, not a life I'd recommend. But it's mine.
-
Keep on rockin' in the free world drivin'.
-
Languagehat, you are right. My copypastering was not of the first mark yestereve. (I got here thanks to your April Fool's Day post, I think - thanks!)
-
Is it 24 hours yet?
-
Hi y'all. No one reason for joining now. I very much enjoy the mefi folks and the mofi folks helping create this place. What I want: good conversation, fun and thought provoking sites and ideas, disagreements that respect our shared humanity. Me: I like black boxes, complexity of systems, working to deduce what may be happening, the wonder of our world/universe/existence. I'm in science, living in Spain, headed to the San Francisco bay soon.
-
i joined because i followed a link from languagehat's blog and i couldn't quite manage to get up at 5:20 am in a vain attempt to join MeFi. This place seems just fine anyway. I live in South Australia, currently studying to be a qualified librarian, while working full-time in a library. For those impressed or otherwise by tertiary study, i have an honours degree in history and an almost finished PhD that is likely to sit in the bottom draw until the Vogons appear. I also play Touch Rugby (or Football) and ride my bicycle a lot.
-
"....disagreements that respect our shared humanity..." /love that
-
Hey, dj, what library you work at? /South Australian
-
And I'll continue the inquisition with: what field is your history work in?
-
Hi Wolof, i work at one of the uni libraries. jb, in my normal degree i studied general European history, German post-war history, Japanese history up until the 1930s, US history and a course on war and film. My honours thesis was about the development of environmental/ecological attitudes in films & tv. It focussed on six tv series/films. I also did a subject on the French response to war in film and wrote essays on Donald Worster (an env. historian) and environmental history. My PhD thesis was to be about a/v material dealing with forests in Australia, starting with newsreels in the 1920s, up to videos/films in the 1990s. Money, burnout and life in general have put it on permanent hold, although i think i will still finish writing it someday, even if not for the degree.
-
Um, which one? Typing this from the Barr Smith.
-
Are we still introducing ourselves? Hello, my fellow monkeys. I've been lurking around here for a while--can't remember what link initially sent me here. I liked the relaxed monkey vibe and eventually the urge to participate overtook me. I am a poor graduate student studying environmental health in the big bad city of New York. I like the idea of socially responsible science, but sometimes question the paternalistic impulse behind population-based health practices. Is anyone still awake after that sentence? I live for 10 dollar Philharmonic rush tickets (yes, I'm a nerd), discovering new music, and jogging around the Harlem Meer in Central Park (a nerd who exercises!).
-
mandyman, I too am a nerd who exercises and i am still awake. Wolof, let me just say that you better have your phone turned off! :P
-
Hee! *cowers from big mean librarian*
-
I live in Ottawa (capital of Canada). I'm happily married with two little girls. Like most others here, I have been a longtime MeFi lurker and I was happy to find a similar type of community weblog that I could join. I come here when I can, but between work and my family I don't have tonnes of spare time. With NHL playoffs starting this week, I'll have even less time. Go Sens Go
-
The Onanist: MoFi should be the first and primary motivating factor of your life, doncha know ;) Just a note to welcome y'all here. I'm half a newbie myself...or at least halfway down the membership list :) Wolof: Cower, mere mortal! I shall smite thee with...what? Oh. You mean you weren't cowering from me? My mistake. hehehe...ahem. *hides 100-ton hammer*
-
Oh you Monkeys! Welcome. Have a banana. And a poptart. And a peep.
-
Jim Loy will preside over the initiation ceremony back at the old mill. You better don't be late.
-
Hey! All the pop tarts are gone.
-
...coupla days late on this introduction thing. forgive me. boston girl here; head in the clouds, feet in the ocean... i was introduced to these shenanigans on one of my many jaunts around the internet during my copious amounts of down-time at work. Comes with working at a scuba shop in boston in the winter...whoda thunk? do i get a pop tart now? ...pretty please?
-
Banana Keeper: Another round for the house to welcome the newcomers. fractal_badger: you silly mammal, we are NEVER out of the foiled goodness of Pop Tarts. We get them delivered by the trainloads. Unfortunately, there's always a boxcar of those damn icky peeps in there, too. *shudders* So, danapiper, belly up to the bar and have a Monkey snack. Welcome. Please put your peels in the neat pile labeled "BlueHorse" sitting by the door.
-
I'm happily married with two little girls. What, that's legal in Ottowa?
-
Is it just me, or does MoFi feel more genderbalanced than Me Fi? Can't say i don't like it. Mayhaps it has something to do with MeFi having been closed for so long?
-
Its the lavender colour scheme, Captain Psyko.
-
Its the color scheme? Dang, and I thought it was my shiny coat and dashing comportment.
-
Has anyone ever read the nutritional information on a pop-tart? I do actually adore them (despite a little toaster struddle trolling), but now I can not bring myself to face them. (and now I just want to share the pain with you)
-
jb, you don't want to get on Dizzy's bad side...
-
Pop Tarts in a lavender context are NOT about nutrition, jb.
-
Wow--i've got that same sentence tatooed on my buttocks, BlueHorse! Hey--- WAIT A MINUTE!!!
-
*whistles, sterilizes needles* NEXT!
