  • At first it was a bit confusing - but once one or two links are explored, the connections are obvious. I think this is closer to clever than vague. Pain is an important - and confusing - medical issue. I have little experience myself, but a close friend is an epidemiologist studying arthritis and related diseases - she talks about how scaling pain, because it is so personal, is so difficult. Diseases whose only major symptons are pain, like fibromyalgia, are often stigmatised; even in diseases where we know at least some of the causes, like osteoarthritis, are often downplayed by those who have it, who believe that pain is simply something to be suffered as you grow older.
