More information: main page for Man Conquers Space Anyone else get all misty eyed and longing when they saw the rocket going up, up, up? Will this ever happen in my lifetime?

I'm with you, jb. I was seven in '69, and will never forget the yearning, the craving, the wonder of the moon landing. So Mars--YESSS! If anyone is interested, e-mail me about other cool retro-historical sites...

My father worked at the Cape (for Xerox) when the first moon shots were going up you wouldn't have believed the hoopla. (I was about 4.) People came from all over the world, the roads were entirely gridlocked, nobody could move. When they finally launched the thing, everybody just stopped whereever they were, got out of the car, and just looked up silently--wherever they were. It was something I'm glad I got to see.

I haven't even been paying attention to great posts like this. Well, okay I have, since Nick collapsed from exhaustion. And I can quite understand why.

I think you may win a golden banana for this!

Or perhaps we'll all get banned!
