The guy seems to be working his way out from Hiroshima on the Shinkansen (Kyushu is to the west of Hiroshima, Kinki and the Tokai region are to the east). Maybe Yokohama and Tokyo will be up next. I've been to a couple of the places from the Kinki section. This one from Kyoto is one of my favorite views in Japan. The author isn't joking about the road being bad. It's hard to find from the city and quickly changes from a regular narrow Japanese city street to a narrower mountain road. The spot is about a 15 minute drive through dense woods in the northern part of Kyoto City. You feel like you've completely left the city when all of a sudden you round a curve and get there's this great view where you can see the whole city. It seems to be a popular date spot for adventurous boyfriends. It looks like there are some nice links to other sites with panoramic picture from about Japan littered throughout the sites BBS. [For those interested, the Japanese word for BBS is 掲示板]
