A search-engine that tries to 'understand' its' visitors and find things you don't know about. This seems like an interesting effort in blending search/suggestion/discussion all into one. I have just signed on via Flork.

Is anyone familiar with Gnod? For that matter, I am not familiar with Flork, but was required to set up an account in order to use Gnod. Anyone? Anyone?

  • It did help me find some things I wasn't familiar with, but I would never use this to find something that I was actually looking for. I tried the search funtion for several things and got crap answers each time.
  • I've used their music feature in the past (I think this was on Fark some time ago as well) and had some interesting results. I've forgotten about it and haven't been using it in a while. I remember when it first started there were more non-mainstream bands listed (or else all bands led to the same four bands) and I just did it today and got a lot of top 40 type stuff. But there were a few I had never heard of that I may check out.
  • I've been checking this site every so often for over a year. I've never been quite able to figure out where its data comes from, but its interface is cool and it does a nifty job of relating musicians. I use it to get new ideas of what stuff to try out on P2P, and if I like something I hear, I may buy. Who says the internet is bad for music sales?
  • Actually, the feature on Gnod I'm accustomed to using is this: http://www.gnod.net/music/related/Modest+Mouse.asp Click on a band name to re-center on it. To enter a compeltely new band that doesn't appear on the page, just type it into the URL line. Replace spaces with plusses +
