Best and worst movies of 2008
...
My picks for 5 best and worst: 5. Iron Man 4. Milk 3. Son of Rambow 2. WALL·E 1. The Dark Knight 5. Burn After Reading 4. The Happening 3. The Spirit 2. Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed 1. Harold & Kumar Escape From Guantanamo What's yours? What's wrong with mine?
-
Seeing that I only watched a total of two new movies in 2008, here is my best and worst list: Best 1. The Tale of Despereaux 2. Kung Fu Panda Worst 1. The Tale of Despereaux 2. Kung Fu Panda That, my friends, is the sad truth. Though, I have just discovered the fun of downloading movies to my new ipod touch... Here's to hoping that 2009 allows me to watch a few more!
-
I'm only going to list my pick of the best. I looked over a list of 2008 movies and realized I only saw one or two that were truly awful. Best 1. In Bruges 2. Frost/Nixon 3. Dark Knight 4. Sukiyaki Western Django 5. Let the Right One in
-
I would like to add that I agree with flurker. Burn After Reading was horrible.
-
Incorrect. Burn After Reading was the most ambitious and one of the best shaggy dog stories I've heard in a very long time.
-
camel of space: I loved In Bruges. So funny and so sad. I just haven't had a chance to see many movies this year; I think the only one I actually saw in a theatre was Dark Knight. (Oh, and Horton Hears a Who but that doesn't belong on any list.) We did see In Bruges, Tropic Thunder, and Wall-E in...other formats.
-
i also enjoyed In Bruges, Wall-E, Dark Night and esp. Burn After Reading. Who wouldn't love seeing Malkovich pop Pitt in the face?
-
also, as much as Chillee Ugum creeps me out, he was FANTASTIC in Tropic Thunder. If the sentimental vote hadn't gone to Heath Ledger (admittedly, he was also fantastic in the role of the Joker) for the Golden Globes, I could have totally seen him winning it for his Les Grossman character.
-
No mention of "Happy Go Lucky"? or "Slumdog Millionaire"? Those are my top 2, followed by "Tropic Thunder","Milk" and "Wall-E". "En-ra-ha!!!" and "full retard" have permanently entered my vocabularian repertoire.
-
Also, I make a point of not paying to see the ones I know will be bad, but I already know "The Happening" and "Expelled" are at the top of that list. Any Harold & Kumar flick is pretty much a given. And did anyone bother to see "The Hottie and the Nottie"??
-
Never go full retard.
-
Oh yeah, I saw Benjamin Button at the cinema after Christmas. It was a bit Forrest Gumpy but I did like it. I guess given my short list of movies seen it would be on my top 5 list, much like sugarmilktea's.
-
Slumdog Millionaire was in my top 10. These are in my 6-9 range: The Bank Job The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian Frost/Nixon Slumdog Millionaire These are all tied for 10th place. I just couldn't pick a 10th :) Body of Lies In Bruges Flawless Hellboy II: The Golden Army Kung Fu Panda Nick & Norah's Infinite PlaylistNick & Norah's Infinite Playlist The Spiderwick Chronicles Traitor Valkyrie And sorry Abby, but Happy-Go-Lucky almost made my bottom 10 list. What was the point of that movie, just to string a bunch of unrelated episodes together? Made Napolean Dynamite seem almost cohesive.
-
??? How is it a string of unrelated episodes? It's a character study, with a steady plot thread. Her interactions with the driving instructor clearly affect her personality as the film progresses. And there's some solid acting in there, especially from Eddie Marsan. Here's an interesting little article.

You know, flurker, I can't tell which of your lists is bests and which is worsts.
-
Dems fightin' words you're gonna have to back up! Which ones are wrongly listed?
