Nah, meredithea, we did it with kid #1. If anything does go wrong, people are generally more supportive than you might expect. Wishing you luck all the same, because you can never have too much.
Thanks for the encouragement! We've flown before, to varying degrees of success. It just gets harder as she gets older and more active (but not yet old enough to entertain herself). Ah well - it's just a few hours!

Meridithea, I have done a fair amount of flying with my kids. The parents on board will be generally helpful and sympathetic- the singles may hate you if your child cries but screw 'em- you can only do what you can do and kids have to be kids- I stopped worrying about.
Meridithea, take an extra bagful of patience to deal with your toddler, and everything will be ok. Promise yourself a hot toddy after. Take some cookies for the take-off and landing to regulate ear pressure. Otherwise, lots of pattycake. Don't be above a dose of baby benedryl if needed.
As kamus says, if your baby cries and people don't like it, screw them. They were babies once too, and somebody put up with their bawling.
