My old woodshop teacher Mr. Bogotaj would have been much more relaxed if we had one of these at school.

vapidave, SawStop is a fascinating product.
Working with table saws on a fairly regular basis I think it would be a good idea. The video I thought was even weirder was the chopsaw video that was here. (Quicktime) Not so much for the stopping tech, but their chopsaw that seems to work in reverse. -
That is awesome, although I still wouldn't test it with my own finger...

I can just see the young impressionable minds in junior high shop class now .... "Hey man watch what happens when I touch the blade"...."cool let me try".... Other than that I think it's a great idea. I'm just a bit cynical when it comes to idiot proof machines, it means more idiots can be trusted to use them instead of skilled tradesmen. On second thought I've seen my fare share of fingerless and thumbless journeymen carpenters.
