Roll over Beethoven Old but amusing article from Guardian Unlimited about the level of knowledge of your average young adult on classical music.
  • Doesn't this remind you of the (previously linked) Guardian article on young children reviewing classic rock anthems? achingly hip producer William Orbit released a classical album called Pieces In A Modern Style Ugh! Ugh!! Ugh!!! "Hooked On Classics" redux, this time chewing anything with serial suspensions into the pablum "ambient music" mode. Right, and the way to make folks love Shakespeare is to remake his works using last year's "hip" lingo. I wonder where he found the strengh not to include the Pachelbel Canon, remixed with whale songs. /sneer It sold like old trousers Thank god. (I trust that they don't mean like old trousers in Japan.)
  • Heh, I was looking for that album by Orbit but your description is good enough for me to stop thinking about it. Actually, I hate when mixers tamper with classical music but I recently learnt that many famous classical works actually are "remixes" of other classical works. So, I think it's fair when DJs do the same. Even if they are not good at it. There's nothing sacred.
  • Well, check out the Amazon previews. Could still be your ticket. I'm just cranky this morning.
  • The Amazon previews prove your point, goetter. He tampered with Adagio for Strings. Now I'm pissed! By the way. I just found this. [*Shudders*]
  • The Beethoven with the funk bass made up for the rest of it. Now to begin the forgetting, and the healing....
  • Hey, now let's mock the average 60 year old's knowledge of modern pop!
  • I like Armin Van Buuren's trancification of Aria (Paul Schwartz)'s sampling of Purcell's Dido and Aeneas.
  • *plays Deodato's 2001*
  • goetter, its definately disco porn Beethovan.
  • How about camper van beethoven?
  • All it needs is the *wokka-chikka-wokka-chikka* guitar, yeah. (Please, nobody mention Walter Murphy.) Deodato is all right, for that Chick Corea 70s fusion thing.
