3,739 songs ripped from Vinyl to MP3 - "The following is a list titles recorded from my collection of 78 rpm records. All of them are linked to MP3 files and will play what was recorded. No sound enhancement, just what was recorded. Right now, there are 3,739 titles on this page linked to mp3s."

"PLEASE NOTE THAT WHAT WAS CONSIDERED HUMOR EARLY IN THE 20TH CENTURY MIGHT TODAY BE DEEMED OFFENSIVE AND POLITICALLY INCORRECT. SOME OF THESE OLD SONGS REFLECT THAT."

  • 508 UNUSED I can't dance to that.
  • Dang, I was looking forward to seeing if John Henry & Blossom, or Sandy Powell in there - I used to listen to those at my grandparents, playing them on genuine wind-up gramma-phonies. I memorised this from one of them, accompanied by a ukelele: Tired of life, I laid down in the gutter A little pig came and laid down by my side A lady passing by, she was heard to mutter "You can always tell who boozes By the company he chooses" So the little pig got up and walked awaaaaayyyy.. I bet those stinkin' MeFites hammered the site.
  • Point of order -- were 78s made of vinyl? I thought they were shellac or celluloid... Not that it matters, really.
  • We had a box of 78's in the old record collection when I was a kid. I remember they seemed to break more easily than the 33's and 45's. So, yeah, I think they must have been made of something else.
  • It depends on the year of production, and the company doing the pressing. The most expensive record I ever bought was a 78 with one of Bill Haley's earliest recordings from the 40's. If I'm not mistaken, it was pressed on vinyl. Hank, you have a thing for 78s, don't 'ya!? I seem to remember your someone else's post about a 78 collector that was quite fascinating. Grannies seem to have a thing for using old shellac 78s as "disposable cake bases" whenever there's a cake walk...
  • Ghost post.
  • Damn! I wants me some GramMa tooons!
  • The Google cache is still live, so you can at least get an idea of what we're missing out on.
  • Caruse singing "A Vucchella?!?!?" DAY-UM!
  • Thanks, Ed. Now I'm even more bummed...
  • It's back up. YAY!
  • Oh, keen!
  • No Billie Halliday? *weeps*
  • No Billie Halliday? Yes there is - but called "Billie Holladay".
