Anybody know what this is all about?
The Passively Multiplayer Online Game is....

Ayup. I've been playing for about a month. It's a game that exists as an overlay on the internet. You visit websites and earn experience points, and sometimes run across gifts, mines, or links to other sites that have been left by other players. If you aren't a player yourself, you will never see these things, so it's like accessing a 'meta' web, a shared reality, that is invisible to the regular viewer. PMOG is still suffering some technical growing pains, which is kind of frustrating. But as a concept, it's pretty cool. Here's some press on PMOG from calacanis.com, the Guardian, and two from TechCrunch. If you decide to sign up, say hi.

What's for breakfast, gramma? ;-)

Yeah, I am 'playing' it too.

DOH! Thanks, ThinksTwice. Wish I had. So, it can't be seen by other users, just players. Is it going to piss off site owners? Will it mess them up in anyway? I'd hate to be an internet parasite. Youze guyz that are playing? Are there many people? What's the 'payoff'?

Site owners are not affected in any way. The software is an add-on to a user's browser. You choose whether or not to "participate" in the game extras, so it doesn't affect your browsing unless you choose to do something. Are there many people? I don't know, it seems popular right now, but I only have about 5-6 connections, or 'allies' as they are called. The 'payoff' is supposedly that you get to higher and higher levels and compete against your friends. The REAL payoff, though, is that you can find new websites that you otherwise would not have seen. In some ways it is kind of like a stumbleon with points. Try it!
