A short read on Facebook Etiquette from the often-entertaining Sabrina Jalees.
  • The first rule about Facebook is that we do not discuss Facebook...
  • 35+ demographic? *arches eyebrow* Damn kids, get off my lawn internet.
  • I'm only 30, and I'm damned annoyed with facebook. It actually works okay as a social networking system when you are in close proximity to people - such as when you are on the same campus. Then it makes sense to have daily updates, though the "wall" system of communication was always much more frustrating than just having simple discussion threads. You would be in 3 way conversation in 3 different places, and then a 4rth person would come in, only you don't know them so you only get their comments on the walls you can see. But now I'm far away from most people on there - it's just a list of events I can't go to or cryptic messages about their fun party last week. And the original university basis of it was annoying - I couldn't even join some fun groups because I wasn't at the same university as most of my friends. It's basically something designed for campuses, badly spread to the world. I did have one friend who wanted me to get into a scrabble game with him. And I tried, but I suck at scrabble - I only like to play when we play the official Silly-Scrabble game were you aren't allowed to use any real words, but do have to come up with plausible definitions for your fake but still realish sounding words. Then I forgot how to even log into the scrabble game. And don't get me started on the invitations to applications! I hate the applications. I would rather connect with people on blogs.
  • Is all of this something I would have to have a Facebook account to understand?
  • Don't even GO there. The parody is better.
