Isreal welcomes Arnie. Is this really a suitable position for the guv to be taking or a new mode of groping for self-gratification?
  • Son of a Nazi soldier does promotion for Israeli Jewish cause. Only in America.
  • "I've taken ahn plenty of pad kais in moofies, but zose nazis vere de real pad kais."
  • The right wing of Israel bears a striking resemblance to the American right wing. Why is anyone surprised by Arnold's visit? Both groups use god and the bible (admittedly with different editorial additions and subtractions) to justify their suppression of undesirable groups as well as war. Most folks now agree Manifest Destiny was a genocidal land grab, but back then we related our own plight with the Israelites and the "fact" that God gave them/us the right to take over Palestine/North America. The modern state of Israel was founded on a similar claim. Arnold himself does not express religious dogma, but he knows where is bread is buttered. His father's Nazi past and his embrace upon moving to this country of free market Republican politics seems in perfect keeping of this ideological similarity.
  • Hooray for Arnie!
  • And his friend Kurt Waldheim!
  • Sharon and Schwarzenegger.. Mmm, goes together like spam and eggs!
  • Sharon and Schwarzenegger.. The Brains and the Brawn. LOL
  • But which is which?
  • Well, you know. Schwarnegger's father was a Nazi. Sharon lost his job in the early 80s for running concentration camps. Clearly they have a lot to talk about.
  • there was just so much incongruity in the whole thing for me....arnie, sharon, the gehry monument..it appears to me that there is some major exploitation of 'names' in what should have been a more solemn and serious endeavour. it seems to add a comic flavour to the occassion. but then again, maybe 'the terminator' is appropriate for the setting.
  • Well, his visit will be overshadowed not that Hamas leader has been killed.
  • the terminator may well terminate this visit. i don't think isreal is going to be a healthy place for anyone for awhile after that. i definitely classify that move as 'overkill'.
  • Uh...can we spell it right, guys? It's Israel - the -el meaning "of God"? sorry, sorry, just that it jars on my eyes when I see isreal.
  • oops...thanks for the correction. now that i know the root meaning i shall improve my pronounciation as well. thanks alnedra, i am one of those who thrives on constructive kicks in the rear.
  • This explains the holiness of Tarindel - not to mention wendel and tracicel.
  • Yes, and next thing you know, I'll be demanding you guys call me El-nedra. Or something. Don't thank me too soon, dxlifer. I've driven friends to murderous intent before. But you're welcome anyway :)
  • Instead of al-Nedra, insh'Allah.
  • I once had a friend who had an obssession with Sindarin. He suggested I change "Alnedra" to "Almir-Nedhu" (the closest he could get to my nick). Before I decided to do so, I checked it up. It meant "sparkling bolster". So, no. No intention of changing nicks any time soon.
  • I love your user name, Alnedra. What does it mean? *thicks*
  • Uh...it doesn't mean anything, really. Except a long-ago, slight crush on David Eddings novels (I was ten and impressionable). You wanna make a milkshake with that *thicks*? We could share :)
  • I guess we'll have to ask kuujjuarapik for some *hake*.
  • Now I'm lost. What's *hake*?
  • hake...Any of various marine food fishes of the genera Merluccius and Urophycis, related to and resembling the cod. kuujjuarapik, i assume, is the locale in Nunavik.
  • Aha... milkshakes with fish? Ugggh....
