Someone please tell me that this is all just an illusion of sorts?
-
Indeed. I don't fucking get it, and the web site is useless.
-
They totally need to put in a pneumatic tube and link this puppy up to the Alameda-Weehawken Burrito Tunnel.
-
This is a very good idea.

I feel like these sites have tried to insult my intelligence. Guess I'll go to Wikipedia and see if there's less biased info on what it is.

Based on this article, and the fact that this is the same group that put together The Sultan's Elephant, I'm starting to believe this is all just a large fantastical display - - combined with real-time images displayed through this so-called "telectroscope" - - to give the illusion/impression of something much more than what it really is. The spectacle gets underway on the morning of May 20th when a gargantuan drill will rise up half-way from the East River near the Brooklyn Bridge. Another drill will rise in the Thames near the Tower Bridge. Ummm, yeah. But I'm sure it will still look fu%#ing cool!

Very amusing post, phanx.

I kind of fear that if I looked into this thing I should see my evil twin sneering at me from that other place.
-
Say what you like about your evil twin, he looks great in a goatee.

So now they're sending out teasers about La machine, giants in Liverpool. Over to you, kit.
-
"For the past eighteen months, we’ve been working on creating a spectacular new commission for Liverpool 08 – a show on the same scale as The Sultan’s Elephant. The event comes to fruition in September when Francois Delaroziere and his company La Machine will invade the streets and public places of Liverpool. An unmissable piece of free theatre will unfold against the landmarks of this great city, stopping the traffic and captivating everyone who sees it. The precise details are a still a closely guarded secret, but prepare to be astonished by a show that will make you believe in the impossible...

It begins...

A 50 foot high mechanical spider, eh? I'd like to see it clamber from building to building, weaving a 2,000 foot wide web. Then at night the web could light up, because it is made of that pink glo-wire that the Burning Man fans love. Trapping small aircraft in the web would be the icing on the cake.

Giant spider stalks city streets. "Later on Friday night she took a dip in the Mersey". But is it art? (Or just "culture").
