The capture of bin Laden? Hot rumor bubbling up on MeFi about the supposed capture of Osama. You saw it here first - or, more likely, second. If at all.
  • err the article is from 2003, the MeFi link is the sexiness.
  • Man, I hope bonaldi's sources are right.
  • This seems to be the current story: Hundreds of militants 'cornered' Pakistan's army says it has cornered up to 400 heavily-armed militants near the Afghan border.
  • I will remain respectfully skeptical until I read something or hear something definite. Thanks for the link dng.
  • Poop. Yeah, healthy skepticism is the way to go. deep breaths . . in . . . . out
  • If ObL has been taken, we're not going to hear about it until the end of October. There's an election to win, y' understand.
  • News doesn't seem to be gearing up for a big'un - currently high winds causing disruption on the roads is all they're talking about on BBC radio... Doubtful. Until I see some stirrings of hot newsy anticipation (or at least, until my mate in BBC news replies to my text message), I'm committing myself to nothing more than "avoid the A1 and the Severn Bridge".
  • To be fair, it is really gusty today...
  • good point Skrik. Not that presidential elections would stoop to such a low, despicable act.
  • A bit of wind is far more devestating to Britain than any terrorist attack ever will be. And wind and rain at the same time - dear God, its the end times already...
  • yes, Osama is an actor hired by the CIA. The illuminati are flying their black helicopters in search of lands to rape and pillage, I bought a book and paid for a seminar that told me so. I saw JFK too. end communication
  • its the end times already Steve Harmison will save us. And he could probably capture Osama as well. I've got to go out now, and the wind's really going to mess up my hair. Damn apocalypse.
  • ObL killed Diana. Oh, and Bert is mixed up in this too!
  • petebest: It's my understanding that there was no evidence ever found to support such a allegations.
  • if GWB captured ObL, we'd have heard about it immediately. they wouldn't keep it under wraps until october. it would be just too much for W to resist, trotting osama out for the news crews, just like they did for saddam. plus the whole "when you see your leader getting examined by doctors on TV you kinda lose hope in your cause" angle. which is better than the "i don't believe you really caught him so i'll just keep exploding things like he asked me to" angle. but maybe i'm just an optimist. (well, cynically optimistic, anyway.)
  • I still think bin Laden is dead, to be honest.
  • caution: I agree with you. For all the rabid Bush=Hitler people out there, I really think the man cares about saving lives by capturing a terrorist. The good news of his capture should, I would think, transcend any kind of election politics. Bush may be not your guy, but he's always stuck to what he's said, which is the capture of Osama and the eradication of terrorism where it is being fueled actively by participants and rogue governments. IMHO, anyway.
  • methinks the capture of bin laden will do nothing to dampen terrorism. on the contrary.
  • PerpetualWar is like fishing: catch, release, repeat.
