'Embuggerance': British humorist Terry Pratchett, 59, diagnosed with "rare form of early onset Alzheimer's."

This is fucking horrible.

  • This sucks.
  • DOUBLE!!
  • It is *not* a double. MCT posted it in the comments of an FPP from 2004. I think this deserves an FPP of its own. /sulks
  • I agree, Nick. I certainly feel like making a double expression of my sadness at the news.
  • I am so sad about this.
  • *hides in a corner and cries*
  • Tonight my friends are having their annual Hogswatch party. There will be more forms of pig than you can shake a stick at-- and that would include the bacon on sticks. And a pig-shaped cake. We'll raise a glass in tribute and affection to pTerry... *sniffle*
  • I have no idea who Terry Pratchett is, but am thankful that I do not share in his awful disease. I also do not have a clue as to who Terry Pratchett is.
  • Sounds like a wizzard good time, speedy!
  • It will be... if we can all stop ourselves from sobbing into the Coke-basted ham :(
  • "I was pretty addicted to Coke in my Wall Street days..."
  • .
  • That was my first reaction. But on reading his statement, his is right to point out that he's not dead yet, and that as long as he can he will write. I'm just mourning (selfishly) for a talent that could be cut off shorter than it should have been. But I should leave it at his (much wittier words):
"I know it's a very human thing to say 'Is there anything I can do', but in this case I would only entertain offers from very high-end experts in brain chemistry."
  • Yeah, jb, I thought that was pretty typical TP. Found it hard to comment/deal with when I first heard the news. TP isn't even my favoritest author, but he has a wondrous imagination. How sad to think of it eroding away.
  • Latest interview with pterri. About the progression of his condition, his writing, and as usual with his unquenchable sense of humour. An interview in the NZ Listener will appear in full September 18.
