"E` la mamma."
No matter how old or how important you are in Italy, you'd better answer the phone.
"One-third of married Italian men still see their mothers every day; another third see them at least twice a week." How often are you in touch with your mother?

"'Mangia, mangia?' Che cosa 'mangia, mangia,' Mamma? Come posso mangiare mentre comunico sul telefono?" Mother Monster does tend to panic if I don't pick up the phone. And she usually comments on how many rings it takes me to pick it up. I tease her about it, but it does make me feel loved.

Come to think of it, every Italian I've known lived with their mothers until the day they married.
