I saw this ad on TV last night.
Moving and effective? Sure. But should kids be seeing this, without warning? In a world where we cannot let a little one see the naked human form, how is it okay to let them see horrifying pain and disfigurement? Bad dreams, anyone?
teach 'emscare 'em shitless. But it won't teach 'em that watching pain is bad--why, lookie-louism is A-OK! Pull over honey, I want to take pictures of that accident! Stay in bed. With the covers pulled up over your head. Cowering in fear. Otherwise, you know, lifethe terrierists might get you. There, fixed that for you. Does anybody besides me think that ours is an era in which we need to be afraid of everything? I remember hopping on a horse and going riding. I'd mention I was heading out in the desert, or up the hill, and would be back around X:OO time, but Mr. B. didn't panic if I was an hour or so late. Now friends, and even strangers, continually nag me to wear a helmet, don't ride alone, take my cell phone--the latest is that I should buy a kevlar vest. Mr. B agrees that a helmet and a sane horse might be a good idea, but knows how important it was/is to me to have alone time.
