Worst mayor, EVAR!!!11ONE!
Jackson, Mississippi's Frank Melton. via.

• He once stopped a school bus on a busy interstate because he “needed a hug” from the kids inside. • He’s been known to strap weapons to his chest and leg that he has no authority to carry or conceal, then wear them in public. • He keeps a house full of young men, including minors and/or felons, without having the proper foster-parent credentials. Mmmyep, he sounds like a good 'un.

Not only does he sound like a grade A number 1 asshole, but I think he's a sexual predator. Normally, that's not something that automatically comes to me, but he gives me some really nasty vibes just lookin' at him, let alone reading about his little 'games.' The idea that he can keep those kids in his house gives him a whole lotta power over them--do this or you're outta here and in jail. The idea he would stop a bus to 'get a hug?' That's just the kind of thing a molester would do to show the kid that he's not safe, and that the molester is in a power position, and can invade the kid's space at anytime. Never mind that he wants a hug, what about if the kid(s) don't want to give him one? He brings boys from the inner city to swim in the Olympic pool under his bedroom? Invites the reporter into his bedroom--if that isn't a hinky power trip with weird sexual overtones, what is? He's encouraged teenage boys to burn and destroy houses, as well as beat up handcuffed prisoners in some weird control mind game. Telling teenagers "What time are y’all gonna' fuck so I can come up in here and catch you?" is pretty sick. Of course, none of these kids can call him a filthy pervert because he's the top dawg. I really, really would like to be anti-violence, but sometimes I wonder if it wouldn't be easier to shoot this kind of worthless asshole.

That whole teenage delinquent boys emphasis does seem just a tad suspicious. His intervention in their legal difficulties, and (probably illegal) circumvention of the justice process makes Michael Jackson's past behaviour seem positively benign.

Since he came to Jackson from Tyler, Texas, to run WLBT-TV in 1984—leaving his wife and biological children behind..." So it's not all bad...
-
this is one of those stories about which I just cannot even think of anything to say...and that's saying something!

my work here is done :)

It's pretty disheartening to see the civil liberties violations a mayor/government can get away with as long as they're a) done in the name of "getting tough on crime/drugs/terror" and b) primarily enacted against marginalized populations.

BINGO!! Danger, you hit that one right on. American society is pretty well screwed up.
