RIGHT VS LEFT I'm able to view a change of direction at will. Which one are you?
  • weird.. I thought I was a leftie
  • It seems to mostly move clockwise, but if I start reading the text, she goes counterclockwise. My question: Does it matter to the experiment that she has nipples?
  • I immediately saw it as clockwise, but could change it after a few seconds' concentration. I think the nipples helped.
  • The animation changes direction halfway through the loop. It kind of jerks when it happens on my ancient, wheezing laptop.
  • It's easy to change direction when I focus on the extended foot, but nearly impossible when I focus on the nipples. Which only proves I have a 'guy's' brain.
  • I cant get it to turn counterclockwise, but I do see clockwise...
  • Clockwise. It only goes clockwise. Clockwise clockwise clockwise.
  • In fact, I cannot even conceive of her going the other way. I honestly have no idea how any of you guys can see her going counter-clockwise.
  • Weird, MCroft. The same thing happened to me. It first changed direction when I read the text, then I could (usually) get it to change when I thought of something really emotional and it would change again if I recited the alphabet or started counting backwards. *goes back to watching site Hey, now I can do it anytime I want. Just watch the tip of the toe, then focus behind it. Of course, now somebody like VGemini is going to come along and tell me that it's all in my head... oh, wait--it is all in my head anyway *eyeballs go counterclockwise
  • It's within the realm of possibility that I have an ancient, wheezing brain that jerks halfway through the great animation of life.
  • I only see counterclockwise, despite being a right-brained person. Trying to get her to go clockwise makes me feel like the guy from Mallrats who was looking for the sailboat.
  • OK, any more of this and I'm throwing my laptop out the window.
  • It goes clockwise... it only goes clockwise... *how* can it go counterclockwise..? You people are joking, aren't you? Later I'll ask for confirmation on this by a third party... if she sees the counter motion, I'll... freak out.
  • *still at it* Nope. Not even the toe or the nipples help. But now I feel a little dizzy...
  • Oh man, that took me ages. I could only see clockwise until I looked at her shadow. I never thought I was particularly right-brained.
  • I looked away then tried to calculate 2^3 and it switched direction. Heh. Probably just fluke.
  • OK, she finally went clockwise. BITCHES DO WHAT I TELL THEM TO DO!
  • It went "anti-clockwise" for a long time and I thought Nickdanger was a dork for saying it went clockwise. Then I focused away from it and it started going clockwise. Then it only went clockwise and I couldn't get it to "go back" to counterclockwise. But aye, very nipply.
  • I see her only moving clockwise, but that probably has less to do with what brain I am and more to do with that is the way that people usually spin after I slap them.
  • I could only see clockwise despite "trying" to see the reverse until I read the header text and she flipped and wouldn't flip back. does this mean I have two brains?
  • clockwise only, no matter what.
  • Now, I'm spooked. I've just shown this to another person. 'Can you believe some people see the rotation to be counterclockwise?' 'But... It is.' 'Ah..?' From the moment the page loaded, I SEE THE DANCER ROTATING COUNTERCLOCKWISE. I look at the GIF I saved previously (surely it's a trick, ha!). Same thing. It's on the opposite direction. Now I can't see it clockwise. Thanks for messing with my feeble brain, monkeys. *collapses*
  • Watch the image. When you see the leg swing out front, say to yourself "front." When you see the leg swing out back, say to yourself "back." Do that for a few moments. "Front. Back. Front. Back." Then reverse what you are saying. Say "front" when the leg is in the back, and "back" when the leg is in the front. This may help you to see it the opposite way.
  • Clockwise. Only clockwise. Which means I depend on right brain function? Which means I should be able to at least imagine it going anticlockwise? Or something? I think both sides of my brain are broken.
  • Both for me. I can easily switch.
  • Clockwise only. No questions, no hesitations. You counterclockwise people are FREAKS.
  • Started counterclockwise, then I tried to force clockwise and it worked within about three turns. Then it was very hard to get back to counterclockwise - took a blocking of any other alternative. It's a funny test...
  • Only clockwise. Which is odd, since I can remember watching MST3K and sometimes seeing the robot silhouettes as facing forwards and sometimes as facing backwards. Of course, that was before I got that scar tissue on my right retina, so the old peepers don;t work together like they used to.
  • Watching the heel that oontacts the "floor" I came to the conclusion that the direction does change in the video.
  • TUM, you got me thinking. Maybe the reason I can see either way isn't a left brain/right brain thing. I'm nearsighted in one eye and farsighted in the other. My eyes don't really work together at all, and I have horrible depth perception. Maybe I'm switching eyes when I switch directions....
  • I came to the conclusion that the direction does change in the video Mr. K and I were watching it at the same time, and he saw only clockwise, while I saw it change to counter-clockwise and back.
  • I think you people who say it's switching directions in the video are full of hooey. It's a noptical ullusion. Disagree with me at your peril. that is the way that people usually spin after I slap them. So watch it, or I'll send 'Nockle after you. MonkeyFilter: Not even the toe or the nipples help.
  • OK I'm as left-brained as they come...analytical, logical, hell...I'm an engineer fer christs's sake...but she only goes clockwise...no matter how I try to switch her...someone help me...
  • I can only see clockwise, too. How could it be different than that?
  • I tried it with each eye individually, and apparently both my eyes are controlled by just one half of my brain. It's only clockwise.
  • Hint to get it to change: look away, like at the headline, and as you're looking away, imagine it spinning the other way.
  • Once I look at her lower foot, though, she always goes counter. Have to look at her swinging arm to go clockwise.
  • From across the room, my wife sees the image spinning counter-clockwise, but when close-up it doesn't looking its spinning at all (to her), it looks like the image is swinging back and forth, like a door or something. I've also tried from across the room, looking away, squinting, peripheral viewing, sideways viewing. Nothing works.
  • Took me a while, but I was able to go from counter clockwise to clockwise. I was able to do it by letting my eyes go unfocused at the feet of the woman.
  • I GOT IT! upside-down viewing gets it for me. I can slowly turn right-side up and keep her counter-wise, but it's hard to keep her there.
  • At first I saw clockwise only. After about 15 seconds of staring I could make it flip back and forth at will. The easiest switch seems to be the "rotating door" method Knickerbocker mentioned. It's as if she is always facing away and pivoting left then right then left then right. Staring at her feet makes it easy, harder to switch when looking at the arms for me.
  • Maybe we should all try acid.
  • Clockwise. Anyone who sees otherwise should please reconsider, because you're wrong.
  • The direction doesn't change. It's an animated gif that only contains the first rotation.
  • She starts goin' clockwise but if I look at her out of the corner of my eye she starts goin' t'other way. She'd be a real hit with the Square Dancers. Promenade left, spin your partner right, no right!, right goddammit! I'm a-watchin you!
  • I still can only see clockwise, but the wife can make her switch at will. I'm sure this tells you something about our relationship, but I can't see that either.
  • I can only see counterclockwise. Mind you I am from the Southern hemisphere so that might make a difference....
  • Finally got Tittie McNipples to switch hit for me.
  • ::hypothesizes that some people are unclear on the meaning of "clockwise" and "counterclockwise"::
  • I keep seeing clockwise, and was entirely unable to see it going counterclockwise until I concentrated on the top left corner of the computer screen, which works only sometimes. However, once I blink for too long, I see it clockwise again. Am 100% unsurprised to find that I am left-brained. Clockwise: When her hand and leg are to my right, I see them swinging towards me; when they are to my left, I see them swinging away from me. Vice-versa for anti-clockwise. I.e., I envisage the clock face to be horizontal in relation to her, like a mat that she is standing on.
  • Monkeyfilter: Finally got Tittie McNipples to switch hit for me.
  • *bows to the tag-fu of TUM
  • Oh God. I stare and I stare and I only see counter-clockwise. Nipples, knees, toes, you name it. Doesn't matter, always widdershins (counter-clockwise). The more urgent question for me is, what does it mean if she starts to polka? *rubs eyes, stares at animation, utters piercing scream*
  • Clockwise. Clockwise. Clockwise. Clockwise. Nothing but clockwise. Then I started doing mental arithmetic. Counterclockwise. *head asplode*
  • the cat has nipples.
  • Does anyone else see that cat's eyeballs going counter-clockwise?
  • This is too weird for words... when I look at the animation with the cat, the thing appears to change directions. Must be the acid.
  • This is a spinning demon woman who has terrified me for almost an hour with her incessant directional changing and tomfoolery. It was counter-clockwise for the first minute, and then it switched, and then it looked like she was just moving the one leg from side to side, and then it just kept yelling "LEFT!!!" NO, RIGHT!" And it devolved into crying follwed by incredible sexy-time.
