Radiohead to release 7th album.
In ten days. As a download. For any price you like.
This comes a few days after the radioheadlp7.com domain rickrolled (maybe NSFW) everyone who went to it. It seemed an elaborate hoax except that the domain now directs to the new album site inrainbows.com, which suggests that Radiohead rickrolled their own fans. Either that or this new album is just a more elaborate elaborate hoax, in which case I'm about to be out 5 GBP. Sadly they don't explicitly say if this download is going to be in mp3 or what.

i was really excited until i realized one can only get half the tracks as a download. to get the rest, one has to buy the £40 (fixed price) discbox deluxe CD and LP conglomeration which comes out 2 months later, or no deal. whotta boggin.

That is very vague and dodgy-sounding. But also like something Radiohead might do. Mostly I liked the "It's up to you"..."No, really, it's up to you" links. It's like they knew what I was thinking!

Its a great idea, really. Its just a shame there isn't a standard priced cd version, too - I don't have a record player, and can't really justify spending £40 on it

Woodstock!

Word is a regular CD release will happen in early 2008. You'll just have to wait for it... I bet the second disc of the box set will be b-sides and noodlings anyway. Not to say I won't end up buying it...
-
only 38% of folks paid for the download
-
Here's the real point, though -- how many of the other 62% would have bought the album if downloading it for free weren't an option? I don't ask that as a challenge, I'm genuinely curious.

Useful to compare early sales between last album and this one. I'm not a fan, but I've the impression it's been > 5 years since the last Radiohead album. Is that right?

10 since the last good one.
