• I'm a big fan of the old school Monster Manual cover. It's a Red Dragon! And a Unicorn! And a Centaur! And an Owl Bear! And a Troll! And they're all hanging out together! Plus, it looks like Napolean Dynamite drew them.

• The monsters are indeed lame, but the writer just isn't smart enough to carry off the level of sarcasm he's shooting for.
• Owlbears were a big favorite of mine. I still have a classic Citadel Miniatures Owlbear figure from circa 1982.

• It's a hoot to make fun of the Owlbear (Not that anyone gaming will now care), But only a noob mocks Gelatinous Cube-- such a jest is not fit for an Asswere.
• (I was always amazed that Gygax and Co. were never sued for their "creation" of the Shambling Mound. It's obviously a Man-Thing.)
