I want epaulettes on my liberal uniform!
  • Sometimes people will try to argue it isn't true, but look at this fact reported today in the Yale Daily News: By checking the records of the Federal Election Commission, reporters determined that Yale faculty donated to Democrats more often than to Republicans by a margin of 45-1. That is literally $45,000 in donations to Democrats versus $1,000 in donations to Republicans. It'd be nice to know exactly how they "determined" this, and what, if anything, it has to do with their teaching. The dean says we don't hire on the basis of political affiliation because we don't ask. I guess what that means is that the liberals can just spot each other on sight. There must be a uniform the rest of us don't know about. Yeah, that makes much more sense than the idea that it's the sort of job and instituion that people who already have a liberal philosphy would be attracted to and apply for. But if there IS a liberal uniform, my guess it that involves black berets and socks with sandals.
  • Could also be they're smartser.
  • I wonder what the ratio is at, say, Oral Roberts University or Brigham Young University or Bob Jones University.
  • You get to wear a Fez. Jumpsuit & clownboots optional.
  • All fundamentalist hate groups try to kill intellectuals. Fox "News" is utter shit.
  • I may be wrong, but as I see it, the common sense generalization seems to be smart "liberals" are intellectuals where as smart "conservatives" are capitalists. The core of why conservatives behave the way they do is because they wish to protect their families and their way of life, and while liberals may want the same things, their political focus seems to be bringing about positive social change and some greater measure of fairness in the world. It would seem an atypical decision for the smart liberal to pick the more lucrative but socially questionable corporate job, while the conservative would favor providing for his family over taking the more idealogical job. I think we liberals need to separate the cause from the effect in the conservative mind: they are (generally) good people with admirable intentions, but the impact of trying to maintain and even revert the status quo can be incredibly harmful in the long run, best example being pollution.
  • Wow, I'm a conservative, who'd have thought?
  • My favorite thing about John Gibson is he's the only weaselly cable news show host who actually looks like a weasel.
  • In a related story, a very unscientific poll conducted by me shows a tendency for the highly educated to lean left while folks who've made lots of money without benefit of book-learnin' lean right. Whenever I hear someone speaking literately and polysyllabically, regardless of economic status, I think "ah, sounds like a Democrat."
  • Right. On the truck, you.
  • pol..ly..syl..la..what now? *starts leaning right*
  • I don't know, MCT, in certain lights I think Nancy Grace can look pretty weaselly too.
  • She's more ferret-like, actually. My bad.
  • I wonder what the ratio is at, say, Oral Roberts University or Brigham Young University or Bob Jones University. By Mr. Gibson's flawless logic, it must be exactly the same: "Now, bear in mind, this is just the Yalies. But is there any reason to suspect the disparity in liberals to conservatives is any different on any other campus anywhere in America?" "Journalist," my fat white ass.
  • Perhaps Fox news should report that Republicans are too stupid to become Yale faculty.
  • I mostly love how he seems to seriously believe that there is a "liberal" uniform. Or maybe a secret handshake.
  • I mostly love how he seems to seriously believe that there is a "liberal" uniform. Dude, I think you need to give your sarcasm-meter a kick.
  • PB, coolest language link I've ever seen. Who says Wikipedia sucks?
  • librul uniform? Does that come with pants that bag at the butt and knees?
