Test the Nation: Watch Your Language. Last night, people across Canada did a test of the Queen's* English. I did well until I hit the last section on word origins (and suffice to say the good people of Coquitlam could stand to hire an image consultant). And I was miffed that on a test of Canadian English, the CBC misspelled tuque. For shame, CBC! (*Queen of Canada, obv.)
  • 61/70, which although not a super score, is well above my respective brackets, and Pallas Athena.
  • I think you mean Test the Nation, Louis. *self-satisfied chuckling* 50/70. Dangit! What nation is that? I've never heard of a "Canada" before. Is that some kind of militia or something? a long test, but man that was a great clip of Great White North.
  • Gorg fnew zipple konge u farlyfup nizz plonge - TWONDY FERMISNAPS "English". Po bupple "quidnuncish".
  • Wendy Mesley's hotness (oh-my-god-she's-fifty???)distracted me too much to take the test.
  • 61 as well. I hosed the word origins section, which was surprisingly difficult. I did a hell of a lot better on the Canadian section than I predicted I would (10/12).
  • What nation is that? I've never heard of a "Canada" before. It's like "Red Sox Nation", only for hockey.
  • My computer cannot read Flash, so let's just assume I scored 70.
  • I think you mean Test the Nation, Louis. I think he meant, "'TIS the Nation!" 55/70 here. Where I really tanked was "Made in Canada." And I grew up watching the CBC, no less! I loved how, in the to/two/too question, they had an "All of the above" option! And what adorable kids! THe feller giving the "He goes/I go" was rather attractive, too.
  • 57/70 But since I'm not Canadian, my ego is not entirely crushed.
  • I think you mean Test the Nation, Louis. I think he meant, "'TIS the Nation!" It was my pre-test test. Good news! You both passed!
  • 57/70. I am kamus.
  • Har! You misspelled "oknge".
  • The scoring system needs changing: - A is for Aussie - B is for Brit - C is for Canuck - D is for Damn Yankee
  • 56/70 I am not kamus
  • With 56/70, I consider myself a lucky European. The question about a shag in Thunder Bay made me blush.
  • 50/70
  • I only managed 56, but I'm fighting an infestation.
  • OK, first of all, one of you BC people is going to have to adopt me. Second of all, why is there only left and right? Whatever happened to cack-handed? What the heck is a vamp? I put socks. I figured EVERYTHING in Newfoundland would have to do with socks. Unless it had to do with gloves or hats. Isn't vamp one of the 50 words those Newfoundpeople have in their language for socks? Moose = Meese. I haven't watched those Snidley Whiplash Saturday morning cartoons all these years and learnt nuthin! 50/70. It's all PeteBest's fault. The videos wouldn't load right. I got confused after Rumsfield. Everything that I didn't know, was something that I knew, but I didn't know if it was known, but I didn't know that I knew I knew it. Really, the videos didn't load right And I just got a letter that my adoptive parents rejected me because I had a score of *one* on the Canadian section so I won't be moving after all.
  • Managed 55/70. Considering how bad my spelling is, not too shabby.
  • "Don't you mean, 'No more, EH?'" Tom Servo's salute to Canada, via Youtube.
  • 49/70, considdering Im Canauck theirs no escyouse. But seriously, a time limit? I live the west coast life for cryin' out loud, we have a pace. It took me twenty seconds to figure out that the question about "Here I go" was actually related to the video that preceded it, I thought it was a mistake for a while there! Marijuana really does impair reaction time!
  • By the by, Cap, "toque" was properly spelled on the test; it was for Canadian English, not Canadien English (what!?), after all.
  • Pfft. The original word was toque, and toque still means a kind of hat -- one which is NOT a tuque! And since it's tuque in Quebecois, which is where tuques came from, why would it revert to toque? Don't make no sense. Tuque it is. I have spoken.
  • 60/70 - Booyaka, eh! For a sound bite, "a proof is a proof" beats the lord-tunderin' jeezus out of "Austrian troops" any day. Uhmmm... Someone please tell me if I should be proud or scared.
  • Jeez, Capt! Lookit the "beanie" on yer wiki link. I think NOT. *enjoys a toque* *removes another snail*
  • I SAID "I have spoken." Sheesh.
  • 57 Some questions were just asinine It's a toque CBC owes me 20 minutes of my life for waiting to load completely unnecessary video clips I wish Margaret Atwood wasn't Canadian so I wouldn't be subjected to her every frickin day Wendy is HAWT! I like beer
  • OK, rocket -- you can have Wendy if I can have Nahlah Ayed.
  • 53 out of 70. I sucked at all Canadian stuff (props to my knowledge of L. M. Montgomery literature for helping me with the term "Bluenoser," however) and oddly, did quite poorly at the word origins, considering my minor obsession with word origins. Hmph.
  • 60 out of 70 Ceci n'est pas une canadienne.
  • 54 out of 70. That was interesting. An IQ test that requires me to listen to kids to sing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" (badly). Somehow, I feel dumber for having taken the test.
  • Eh?
  • Brent Bambury has that effect, Mickey.
  • I got a 45. I am clearly the village idiot around here.
  • Damn. That goddamn fast food lawyer always wins.
  • I have a client who works at Bojangles who was caught crossing the street toward Bojangles late at night with three friends. They were armed with a couple of flare guns and knives. They were charged with conspiracy to commit armed robbery. Just thought you might find that useful, InsolentChimp. I never realized how many fast food related cases I had until InsolentChimp began writing his soon-to-be Pulitzer Prize winning pieces.
  • fish tick, I think if you just toss out your can opener, your infestation problem will be solved.
  • MonkeyFilter: I am clearly the village idiot around here. Why, yes, yes you are. And we love you for it! *pinches cheek
  • bernie, if I didn't have 450 pages to annotate by tues., a buttload of other readings and two-a-halfscore students to deal with, I'd be all over it... that a goldmine - think of the Neil Diamond references! I'll have to stick to my usual snark and distasteful self-aggrandizing comments for the time being... wow, with my repugnant personality I could be a Lost writer with this hiatus! I make it up as I go, too!
  • Possible episode titles: "Mr. Bojangles - Dance Sue!" "Bojangled, Bothered and Bewildered" "Fifteen Pieces of Flare" "The Hamburglar Caper"
  • There's another instalment going in just over an hour -- 21st century trivia, so you'd better do well, considering that you were around for the entire time.
  • 54/60, so 90%. Suck it. Could have done better, if I was a shut-in and knew about that whole Second Life thing.
  • 31/60. But I did a lot of timed-question panicking.
  • 43/60. But I don't know squat about your Tim Horton adverts.
