A Setback for the Autonomous Killer Robots.
For complete details, check out the official DARPA Grand Challenge website. If I had to root for a self-directed murderous robot machine, I'd cheer for the NaviGATOR, from my hometown of Gainesville, Florida. ("I used to pass that autonomous mechanical death system every day on my way to class!")
-
I was rooting for Sandstorm, which (who?) sheared a halfshaft seven miles into the course. Here are some pictures from the event. I hope that DARPA releases the video soon. I trust that everybody's busy crying into their beer. Maybe tomorrow (Monday, in North America) we'll get press releases and debriefing.

g, I saw some of this on TV. It was cripplingly funny.
-
Sandstorm's last words. "Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer, do...." The final results [pdf] for every vehicle in the race.
-
If I call you "g", and you call me "w", shit can get quite confusing.
