My New Leg is a blog, about my experience of getting a new prosthesis and the process involved in how amputees get prostheses. The goal of this blog is to document the delivery of prosthetic limbs in the American health care field as well as to report back from the clinic on the personal experience of wearing one and getting a new one. If you’ve ever wondered, “where do artificial limbs come from?” or “what does it feel like to wear an artificial limb?”, then you’re in the right place.

-- via My grandfather had a prosthetic leg, so I was always pretty interested in the process involved in making and repairing them. See also: Rebuilt: the Human Body Shop a cable show about a prosthetics shop.

  • Care to elaborate on that, Hank, or are you just being an obnoxious prick again?
  • RTD: Perhaps he's trying to say it's a prostheses? Interesting stuff. In light of the fact that my Grandfather could never get his false teeth to fit without hurting, I've always wondered how comfortable someone could be with a false arm or leg. Kudos to the blogger for his insight on this subject.
  • Nice post (hank, you're suck a prick)
  • To be honest, my grandfather's leg hurt most of the time, too. He put up with it for a long time out of sheer stoicism, but in the end he used a wheelchair. (In fact, his last illness stemmed from a surgery to hopefully make his leg more comfortable to walk on.)
