Vague online profiles helps dating chances
... so suggests Psychology Today. Finally, a scientific justification for lying on your Match.com profiles.

I seem to remember having discussed this before...

I agree with this in principle. I think putting too much info in a profile gives the air of desperation.
-
Personals seem like an analog to resumes. They're for getting you the interview, not getting you the job.

This "interview" of which you speak Will it get me laid?

I disagree. When doing the online dating thing, I'd prefer to know as soon as possible whether or not I'm going to click with someone. I have limited time to date, and if I can weed out people before first contact so much the better. I'll usually have a somewhat detailed profile with good (and accurate, very important) pictures, and while I probably correspond with fewer people, I tend to be super-compatible with those I actually meet as a result. I can talk up a storm in person as well, which helps. My method probably isn't for everyone, but for the record I'm anything but desperate (if anything, my social calendar tends to fill up rapidly) and have been extremely successful at meeting people online.

I remember Graham Nortin joking about vague profiles. "Swimmer's body? That could mean anything! He might have gills!"
