Pistol Shrimp!
A shrimp with the ability to stun prey via a super laser claw. Or something. (embedded YouTube video)

The flashing phenomenon is thought to be similar to sonoluminescence, in which bubbles that are in a liquid driven by a strong sound field emit light. The researchers have dubbed the shrimp activity shrimpoluminescence. In sonoluminescence, the peak intensity of the emitted light is at a short wavelength. This indicates that the temperature inside the bubble is at least 10,000 degrees Kelvin (18,000 degrees Fahrenheit). I think the issue that research dollars need to be directed towards is this: why aren't the claws pinker?

bubbles that are in a liquid driven by a strong sound field emit light Nature is just wrong.

Perhaps you'd like to hear the math behind that.
-
As long as there's no math in it, sure.
-
"bubbles that are in a liquid driven by a strong sound field emit light" shrimp farts glow?

And . . . kill! Well, stun really.

That would have been a cool little video clip but for the wanky sound effects. Of course, some may think these little shrimp are the key to attaining fusion power. Some.

I, for one, w...

Yadda, yadda overlords. I don't THINK so. Pass the cocktail sauce, please.

Natural born krillers, them shrimp.

Bastard crashed my Firefox. Off to try again.

OK, now I've seen it and I have questions. What's with all the submerged bed frames and nighstands and old jars and crap? Was this filmed in the Fred Sanford Memorial Sequarium?
-
Lara, that's just shrimp interior design. They LIKE it that way.
-
"the heat inside the bubble temporarily reaches the temperature OF THE SUN"??!?!
-
Yeah, I've got a problem with that, too.
