Remarks by the President to 2003 NASCAR Drivers
"Congressman Mac Collins -- I knew he was a race car fan -- good to see you, Mac. You are a Bubba. (Laughter.)"
-
*slumps in chair in embarrassment* This is why, when traveling abroad, I am desperate to appear as anything other than American. I don't want to be lumped in with the people who complain about the lack of elevators in medieval cathedrals, how the streets are too narrow or the coffee is too strong. In some parallel universe, he got to be Commissioner of Baseball instead, and everybody there is happier for it. /end of rant/

Anybody who knows the comedic stylings of of Neil Hamburger might find this frighteningly familiar sounding.
Related joke from last time i saw neil: "gosh, George Bush is really the worst president ever. am i right?" (applause)"which is funny because his son, George W. Bush is so great." (spills vodka tonic all over suit) -
I find it hard to get riled up about this speech. GW may really like NASCAR racing, or maybe he's just courting the folks who do, but you have to expect this kind of thing when we're leading up to an election. Let's save our outrage for the big speeches where there are issues worth disagreeing with, or even lies worth discussing. And, didn't I read somewhere that he was a cheerleader? Was it at Yale?
-
Oh great, now I can only picture him next to Cheri O'Teri doing Spartan cheers.
-
I agree with path, i think my biggest complaint is that it is just a stupid speech. I don't think a NASCAR speech is the place to look for new policy initiatives or great writing. That's not a dig at NASCAR; these throw away speeches are given all the time by presidents greater than G.W.
-
presidents greater than G.W. A president greater than G.W.? Shotsy, surely you jest.
-
Think abaaahd it. The more he does this, the less he's declaring wars, destroying the environment, taking backhanders from corrupt businesses or forcing fundamentalist Christian values on everyone he can. Go NASCAR! (what's a NASCAR?)

Blaise - National Association of Stock Car Automobile(?) Racing. Very big in the southern states of the US.

Ah, the whole cross-cultural aspect of MoFi. That's actually one of the things I've enjoyed best about it.
-
I've enjoyed all the wonderful Nickdanger moments we've had. For instance, this one we're having right now. Ah.
-
Please don't respond to anything by me. Thanks.
