Poll: Americans love the queen A CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll released Monday during the queen's six-day U.S. visit finds that eight in 10 Americans have a favorable view of the British monarch. This comes despite the fact that four in 10 believe Britain would be better off without a royal family. Quite.
  • No mention of her receiving a shoulder rub?
  • What a silly exerpt. Liking a person and approving what that person symbolizes are not necessarily inconsistent positions at all. For example, I can think of many Republicans that I like as people. But that doesn't mean I think they should be allowed to vote.
  • I think it's mostly jealousy, since 'Murrikans spend so much time creating artificial royalty a la Paris Hilton, Bush family, Brangelina, etc. As an aside, am I the only one who thinks that Scott Thompson of Kids in the Hall does a better QE2 than Helen Mirren?
  • New sitcom: The Queen and The Commander Guy! This week: The Commander Guy has to deal with Queenie when she decides to become a deciderer, and remodels the kitchen!
  • And how could not she be loved? Remember, she's a regular person like anybody else... : P
  • She reminds us of our grammas. And she's less snooty than Barbara Bush.
  • I agree with bernockle. I'm no fan of the monarchy as an institution, but am fond enough of Her Maj. Prince Philip, on the other hand, does make you nostalgic for Cornet Joyce.
  • Americans love the Queen like they love the baseball and the apple pie!
  • Did you people not fight a war or something to stop, you know, our royalty muckin' around in your politics?
  • Still, better a Battenberg tart than a bird in the Bush.
  • We love our queen.....god saaaaaaaaaave.
  • I have to agree with es el queso, Scott Thompson did do it better!
  • Better than HRM, some would say.
  • yes, um, that is what he said, fish tick darling....
  • Can I just say Kids in the Hall did everything better.
  • got a quarter?
  • She reminds us of our grammas Or moms, it seems: "You gave me a look that only a mother could give a child." He was going to joke about her age? The nerve!
  • Hah hah Medooser - HRM is Her Royal Majesty.
  • Now now fish tick, Helen Mirren is good, but - I don't know that she's that good. Interestingly, she was born Ilyena Vasilievna Mironov So sayeth the Interpedia
  • Helen Mirren is good, but - I don't know that she's that good. I'll have to pretend you didn't say that, pete.
  • When she visited the White House in 1991 during his father's presidency, he said he was the black sheep of the Bush family. He then asked: "Who's yours?" The queen did not reply. I'm embarassed to be an American. In fact, I've felt mortified so often during this administration, I almost know what it feels like to be British.
  • arf!
  • because they ... get embarassed easily. *cough*
  • tea anyone?
  • Oh! *monocle pops out*
  • I knew what you meant, Koko. This is a nation proudly built on social awkwardness.
  • go to the Philipines. friends of mine were just there and said everyone LOOOOOOVES americans there. like worship.
  • Ah ha ha! Ha. Yes. *sigh*
  • Such an adorable little head of state we have there.
  • Bush: ..you've dined with ten U.S. Presidents. You helped our nation celebrate its bicentennial in 1776....um.... Queen: It's spanky time!
