The GUI from Minority Report
Looks like it might be closer (although maybe clunky and counter productive) than some people think.
Might be cool for photo viewing, or nifty web/alternative interface gadget, but for daily office work, would be cumbersome to say the least. Still, kinda cool. (via Metafilter)

Not quite a duplicate post ... but already covered here.

Counter productive how? Right now I can only think of the drool that would get on the screen a lot.

The only thing I can think is that your arms would get tired initially, but hey, mild exercise with your 1337 h4xx0rz1ngz0rz wouldn't be a bad idea. Me like.

The obvious difficulty I can see with these systems is the lack of a good keyboard input system. For all their faults, keyboards are, still, the most efficient way of entering text. I've seen people claim that you can emulate a keyboard by having an image of a keyboard appear on the screen, but I don't like this solution, as you'd get no tactile feedback from the keyboard, which seems to be really important for typists. I'm not sure I could last long typing on a tabletop with no keys.

Next, the iris scanners.
