Remember kids - dogs go "bark", sheep go "baaa"

Or translated.... dogs go "wan wan" and sheep go "meeeee".

  • [plus I think this story is load of horse dung]
  • So... "baaaaa-rk?"
  • I hope you are not questioning the veracity of The Sun as a news source gomi.
  • Dodgy pommie papers....
  • Hokkaido is very well known for it's sheep. And famous author Haruki Murakami has one book titled A Wild Sheep Chase. Plus there is a sheep year every 12 years. Japanese band Metalmouse have also just released an album titled "Tales About Sheep" which you can listen to here.
  • Oh fer cryin out loud... you can listen only if you are using IE - not Firefox. How freakin' web 1995.
  • You have GOT to be kidding me.
  • I'm not! Can you believe it! Man this is just one example of why the Japanese web is still very much teh suck. Um er or were you talking about the original article?
  • er, the original article. . . Obviously! . . Hmmph! But seriously - really? Nahhhhhh
  • You mean like yes, but no, but yeah, but no, but yes - no?
  • *blink*
  • A Taiwanese friend of a friend came to visit us in the UK. As we drove through the splendour that is the English countryside, our friend became excited and insisted we stopped the car. It was pretty enough but we couldn't see what was particularly special. Turns out the friend had spotted a flock of sheep and proceeded to clamber through the barbed wire to frolic with them in the pasture giggling like a schoolgirl. Good job Farmer Giles wasn't on hand with a shotgun, as sheep-worrying is still an offence I believe. One of many non-story anecdotes I have available for after-dinner speaking
  • Sheep-worrying? "Curiouser and curioser," thought pete.
  • This gives you the gist, pete.
  • Clearly their baa-rk was worse than their bite ...
  • Baa.
  • My mother-in-law's Royal Standard Poodle easily resembles a sheep when he's overdue for his shearing. Stil, you'd think once somebody got the poor critter at home it wouldn't take much to figure out the difference.
  • You're wrong. In Japan, dogs go 'wan~ wan~'.
  • Oh fuyu - if you are going to be picky about accents...
  • Lambist!
  • You mean like yes, but no, but yeah, but no, but yes - no? Maybe.
  • walkies = herdies
  • So I've been sniffing around the Japanese blogosphere... (as there are no Japanese media sources for this story) and it seems that the actress mentioned on some afternoon tv show, she heard from/knows of an acquaintance who was looking online for a poodle and bought a sheep. The Japanese bloggers are skeptical that this happened.
  • I don't know about you all, but all my poodles have cloven hooves.
  • On the up side, think of all the men who own "poodles" who will no longer need to feel guilty for banging their dog.
  • well, i suppose it would make crafting a poodle skirt a snap, what with the shearing and the modeling all taken care of... oh wait, the Japanese bloggers are skeptical. Nevermind.
  • All of them, Ralph? or just you?
  • So, is it the Sun or the scam that's pulling the wool over folks eyes?
  • I just found another blog with an entry from Feb 2, 2006 [Japanese] telling exactly the same story.
  • gomi investigates [self-linkage]
  • I heard citizen journalism was the new fascism, gomi.
  • I have the right boots for that.
  • SNOPES!! SHHHHHHHHH Oh, wait, shouting in the other thread. I don't know about you all, but all my poodles have cloven hooves. That's because your poodles are eeeeevil. So very eeeeevil. Oh, and if it is true? Duh.
  • Is this the right thread to say how much I hate those women who carry their dogs in a purse with them?
  • Gomi, Cerebral Soup is blocked at my work for being 'entertainment'. Must be a typo.
  • !! Yeah it's barely comprehensible let alone entertaining.
  • you can't be serious. and I thought out paris hiltons were idiots.
  • "Buying a sheep instead of a poodle? It's ridiculous!" Ms Sugata said. "If you want to keep the sheep and cut it up and eat it, then that would be a good idea, but that story's just stupid." Awww. (sheesh)
  • I repeat. SNOPES?
  • Status: False
  • Hey look who's their source! Waaaaiiiitaminit . . . then that means . . so . . wait
  • (^_^) Trust me.
  • See, see! I told 'ja!
  • "Who is the bigger fool? The fool, or the one who follows the fool?" -Obi-Wan Kenobi (a long time ago)
  • Bonus points to the first person to dress up their poodle in a sheep costume and take it for a stroll in Aobadai. (Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if MR PET or Kojima already sells one.)
  • Oddly enough - there is a style of poodle fur trimming known as "hitsuji" [sheep] already....
  • Such a killjoy.
  • *kills the joy*
  • *does unspeakably naughty things to joy's corpse*
  • "MeFi's own gomichild"? Are you no longer a MoFiā„¢ exclusive?
  • *ties the joy to a post*
  • We has to share teh gomi. *sniffs*
  • There is enough of my dribble to go around.... fear not!
  • Sir, I represent the Collective Petebests Little People of MonkeyFilter, legal jumbo (but not mumbo) division's comment office. Whereas it is clearly stated in shoutouts numbers 14, 5, and part of slide 6 on the handout, as well as in threads here labelled A-J, gomichild's very ownness is clearly MoFi's and not MeFi's as erroneously and injuriously stated with gravitas and some lovely nibbly cinnamon roll things to go with the coffee. Be it represented hereftoforethwith and advancement theron, that thy shalt forward-ho be dangled (vis a vis les participles) ex partum discourse etc. etc. Yours, the ever convex and sereniacal Count de Bobby Shoutthread, LLC.
