A Prisoner's Dictionary
  • Monkey Mouth: Individual who speaks constantly about nothing substantial or valid.
  • I never heard of pruno before. *stashes ketchup and sugar packets from the corporate cafeteria*
  • These are great, but you only really want to use them to help you understand what other people are saying. If you try to use one of them yourself, there will be a great chance that the term you are using has either fallen out of favor ("groovy," etc.) or is not used in that area. Also, you will sound like a complete phony. My conversations with clients/inmates often involve them speaking a dialect which I don't speak but understand clearly, and me speaking in a way that they don't speak but understand clearly.
  • It's a fascinating example of language adapting to circumstance.
  • Oh, please, SMT, don't get a pruno discussion going. The very thought makes me gag. Those people on the OtherFilter seem to LOVE their pruno, if you're looking for hints and tips. Ssssst, careful, there may be birds on this line And why are't there and tags here?
