Free Mumia?
On May 17, the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals will hear oral arguments in the case of internationally renowned black death-row journalist Mumia Abu-Jamal. It will then decide to either grant a new trial, affirm the life sentence, or re-instate the death sentence. Although Mumia's death sentence was overturned in 2001 he remains on death row.

Reinstating a death sentence seems a little bit on the cruel side. Definitely unusual. This one is going to run and run. Memo to self: Don't murder policemen in front of witnesses, with an unusual gun, traceable to me. That sort of thing causes people to leap to assumptions.

Breif summary of Mumia's May 17th hearing At least one judge, Ambro, seemed clearly sympathetic with Abu-Jamal's Batson claim. ... There is no specific timetable for the court to decide on the four claims before it, though some attorneys predict a decision can probably be expected in one or two months.
