The Lorax by Dr. Seuss (25 min Google video.)
  • Ooooh-- I remember this. It made young me feel very sad.
  • Must...have...thneed.
  • I definitely remember watching this when I was a kid. I think it should be required viewing for everyone. Young children should learn about protecting the environment from a young age, and adults will find themselves inspired into action. I know I just was.
  • Sad. Sad. No wifi. Dial-up only.
  • I've been reading the book to my four-year-old. It's very sad. I don't remember reading it myself as a child but I've seen the film before.
  • Thanks for posting this. I remember the book well, but I hadn't seen the TV show.
  • Kind of the opposite situation as tracicle, probably the product of my Berkeley childhood.
  • The whole "furry" craze can be blamed on the barbaloot suits.
  • Those garments would be much more attractive with stars on them.
  • It's obvious this blatant liberal-greenie propaganda hasn't even slowed the inexorable advance of commercial industry for the last 35 years. So what hope do the likes of Al Gore have? /snark
  • World's changing, Ed. Green is smart business, and it's picking up. The commercial industry you decry is going to invigorate environmnetalism - make it profitable, and thus make it universal.
  • I've been wondering lately if the green movement in the States would be more successful if it wasn't labelled as 'Environmentalism' but the old-fashioned 'Conservationism'. Slightly different definitions, yes, but Conservationism has a long history there, and linked to people like Teddy Roosevelt, so it may be more politically palatable than Environmentalism, which has been largely characterized as reactionary. Plus, Conservationism is almost Conservatism, so there's an opportunity to appeal to appeal to the right which otherwise might not ascribe... Dunno. Just something I was wondering about. Doesn't matter what it's called, so long as it gets done...
  • I will not click that link. I'm afraid it will make me think. I will not watch YouTube or GoogleVids. Because I read these stories to my 'lil kid. The rhymes are burnt into my brain. Need to end them now, step in front of train.
  • Louie: I remember the first time I heard a news announcer use the term "environmentalist" to describe someone. As if anyone could somehow be against protecting the Earth. Which . . of course they can. And do. Are. Whatever. The commercial industry you decry is going to invigorate environmnetalism That's a bet I'd like to lose. Cause I bet that it won't. Green is not cost efficient, and the best things in life are free don't make any money. (And/or by the time green sells, it'll be way too late and only the very rich will have a limited faux form of clean air, water, land . . )
  • The book was actually banned from schools in Laytonville, California. "The Lorax by Dr. Seuss (Theodore Geisel): Banned by the Laytonville, California, school district due to claims that it "criminalized the forestry industry.""
  • And the bookula books in which gajillions of kids look were made out of magical paperback trees. The same sort of trees which do, if you please, get chopped by chopizmos and fall in the breeze. Eventually Janie and Jim-Jim-Jack Doohan progress from the Seusster to Marshall McLuhan.
  • Trees cause more pollution than automobiles do. -- Ronald Reagan, 1981.
  • ...best things in life are free don't make any money. Like sex, drugs and rock and roll? There's no such thing as a free lunch. Therefore, there are no best things. Of course, there are second-best things...
  • Like sex, drugs and rock and roll? No. Well, maybe. Define them.
  • I've had sex, drugs, and rock and roll, all for free, although not all on the same evening. And I've also had a free lunch. It was quite nice.
  • Define them. Sex is when you put pee-pees together in the best way. Drugs are your best friend when life puts a hurt on you. Rock and Roll is what daddy listens to when he hits me best. -Source: Emotional Scars But I see your point: my only brother is by the process of elimination my best brother, and he doesn't make any money.
