Ralph McQuarrie's Star Wars Portfolio
Early Star Wars concept art
-
Sweet. I always liked that one of Luke and Vader fighting.
-
Stop posting awesome links when I don't have time to look at them. Thanks.
-
Those are awesome, thanks. Also check out Steampunk Star Wars for less historical but nevertheless awesome concept art.
-
Yeah, I really like that Steampunk Vader. The Chewie and Han one is great, too
-
Thanks, dng!
-
The concept art for C3PO has a real Metropolis feel to it.
-
To be republished soon, apparently.
-
I actually own these, my mum found them about 17 years ago in a remainder bookshop and bought the sets for all three films. The Star Wars on is the most interesting, just because it's the most different from the film, this picture has the Luke Skywalker character as a girl (maybe supposed to end up with Han?) Must check where these are at some point.

Ben Kenobi, who was originally still to be alive at the end of STAR WARS, can be discerned in the small group walking down the center aisle. Huh. Wonder when/why that changed. Also: Princess Leia - blonde. MMm Hmm! Yeaahh! Fellas? Am I right?
-
No. A blonde would not suit the bikini.
-
I've got a book of McQuarrie art dressed up as 'describing the various planets and aliens in the Galaxy', each locale having a different narrator and backstory. Beautiful art. See also Vincent DiFate.
-
Second on Skrik. Also, only a brunette Leia fits the Snow White archetype of purity and remoteness. Which was so blissfully shattered with the bikini.

>No. A blonde would not suit the bikini. >only a brunette Leia fits the Snow White archetype of purity and remoteness. Slaps will be distributed in the following order . . .

What if the groovy Saul Bass (title designer for Psycho and West Side Story, among others) had done the titles for Star Wars? It might look something like this YouTube video. Don't hate me, fanboys and fangirls, but I think I like it better than the original.
-
Is good, but doesn't quite reach the greatness of Bunny Lake is Missing, much less Vertigo. But the Millenium Falcon is neat.

(Holee shit! I didn't know Saul did the titles for Casino!)
-
whoa.
