homunculus, thanks for this awesome post. the photo series "In Katrina's Wake" is beautiful and horrifying. I have a completely new level of understanding re the destruction in New Orleans.

Awesome. I must go put out the garbage now with a new mental perspective.

Awesome pictures. And a photo website that (almost) doesn't suck, navigation-wise. Thanks!

Yowzer. The picture of the cell phone chargers reminds me of when I left mine at a hotel, and when I went back to collect it, they brought out this big box of chargers from behind the desk with the word 'Nokia' on it and said, "Take your pick".

Great post. The vast majority of Americans are in conscious denial and would be unmoved by these amazing images. I completely reject cell phones and canned soda, SUVs and the need to constantly upgrade computers, (I even carry a cloth reusable shopping bag) and after seeing this, I feel vastly better about it. What's truly sobering is the realization that much of the world's economy seems to hinge on outrageous levels of consumption--people are making a living making/selling/promoting stuff that folks don't really need. The planet is being destroyed so people can have "Diet Pepsi" and musical ringtones, and so arrogant idiots can talk to their spouses while grocery shopping (five miles from home, driving there in a Humvee).
