Police chase goes a bit wrong
[Youtube] Neat footwork by the lad on the bike, though he's probably adjusting his tactics in future Via.
-
Yes, because american TV stations don't play two hour shows full of this kind of content. </sarcasm> Forgive me if I'm a little out of line, but I'm not sure this is an appropriate FPP. Don't let that discourage you though! I really liked your other links, This one just seemed kind of lame
-
Ooh, sorry, never seen TV in the US, though I think they do repeat those cop chase shows back home now you mention it. I might have found this a bit funnier with it being UK footage. I shall not be down-hearted, and shall continue to bring fluff to the front page, you'll be sad to hear :D
-
Abiezer, you're supposed to know that this is USAUSAYouGoddamnCommieFilter. Please study up on the following points before posting here again:There will be a quiz later.
-
I think the point here is that in the UK the cops bash on the indestructible window with a screwdriver? whereas in the States they would have rammed a shotgun through the door and blown the suckers head off.
-
I am applying for re-orientation as per advice. FiftyPoints did have a, err, point, though...I should have thought about the audience (if not the children). But the bike fell over and....
-
(expletive) moron. :D
-
flounce...huff
-
You kids play nice. Remember, the policeman is your FRIEND!
-
>>whereas in the States they would have rammed a shotgun through the door and blown the suckers head off. I'm not real big on the whole authoritarian-abuses-of-power thing, but in a case like this I think there's an argument for shooting the guy and having done with it...
-
Well being another outside of Western culture I found it interesting. Here in Japan you don't get these kind of desperate car chases - er car battering attempts - except for the occasional yunky escapade on a scooter. I wonder what make of car that was - looks like it has really good strong windows. I know Abiezer thinks about me all the time so he was aiming this at the appropriate audience.
-
I enjoy reading the Coppersblog, which Abiezer_Coppe (are you a cop?) linked this clip from. The author of that blog bemoans the degree to which the British plod (their term for policeman) is hampered in his quest to protect the public from the scrotes.
-
Boy, that did take those guys an extraordinarily long time to break that window, are those nerf batons?
-
Sad to see that sort of thing going on in the Land of UK - that's not cricket, I must say. Tut.
-
God, I'm such an American The whole time I'm thinking "Why the hell don't they just shoot him?'
-
Now I'm picturing Benny-Hill style police chases on Vespas. Thanks a lot, gomi.
-
Monkeyfilter: I think there's an argument for shooting the guy and having done with it.
-
After backing in to the motorcycle, he would have been dead in my city.
-
I'm not a police officer EarWax; actually a foaming-at-the-mouth anti-authoritarian lefty, but I do enjoy reading that copper's blog from time to time as interested in issues of crime and social order.
-
I knew one guy who was a UK policeman, who when challenged about his bigoted views would claim that I, "just don't know what it's like out there", like he was in Delta City or something. He also referred to the Metropolitan Police Force as 'The Firm'. I don't know if he wanted a gun, but he described with glee he and 5 others with batons rushing a suspect.
-
Not accusing anyone of inconsistency, but in this thread we seem relatively comfortable with people being shot out of hand by policemen, whereas in other threads I recall almost everyone was dead against humane execution after due process of law. Is there some view about the police not being responsible for things that happen 'in the heat of battle' in the back our minds here?
-
I was interested to see that most of the police commenters on that blog were still against being armed when they discussed it, Plegmund. I'm not in favour of either myself, but would actually have a lot less trouble with an officer ending up killing someone in a tense situation when his or her life was endangered or that of some member of the public, than killing someone after a judicial process, largely because in the latter case the person is now in custody and no longer an immediate threat to life and limb. Like with the Menendes shooting, I was prepared to give the armed officers the benefit of doubt as the incident was first presented; it was later when the whole sorry story came out that it became apparent that to put it mildly it was an appalling failure on the part of the police.

Question 75 (10 marks) Abiezer_Coppe is: (a) a cop (b) a coppe (c) a biezer (d) a boozer (e) a foaming-at-the-mouth anti-authoritarian lefty who enjoys reading a copper's blog from time to time as he is interested in issues of crime and social order.

Question 76 (10 marks) Earwax: (a) is made out of wax (b) is made out of ears (c) made out with Britney once (d) is an earwig (e) is hampered in his quest to protect the public from their own scrotums

Once again I am being pigeon-holed by quidnunc! Feels great, and I didn't have to pay this time.
-
> Now I'm picturing Benny-Hill style police chases Someone should take the video A_C linked to, speed it up about 25%, then change the soundtrack to the Benny Hill theme. Really, this is Keystone material. The motorcyclist is the only one who deals effectively with the situation.
-
>>but in this thread we seem relatively comfortable with people being shot out of hand by policemen I was half-joking earlier, but in the spirit of devil's-advocacy: I wouldn't ask the cops to have more qualms about shooting the guy than he appeared to have about backing over them with his car.
-
You know, Souperman would have dealt with this lawbreaker quite effectively, by drowning his illegality in thick sprays of avgolemono. Your puny "bullets" are neither richly satisfying nor nutritous enough to halt crime.
-
Definitely, "Yackety Sax" is the appropriate soundtrack here. And, Nerf batons? If not Nerfs, what the heck kind of safety glass are they putting in cars now, anyway? Lexan? Impressive. I had to wonder what substance the driver was on that caused him to think he could get through that tunnel... it has to be stronger than what I'm using. Damn. *rifles through bag full of prescription drugs*
-
I thought the batons must be those little telescopic ones they issue these days; obviously work better when delivering a swift punch to the gut.
-
For the record, it's either a 2006 or 2007 Toyota Celica.
-
Pleg: Witnessing a butthole being an butthole in public and endangering someone's life tends to make people less likely to give "the civilian" a break on behavior. Not that I think he should have been shot out of hand, but subduing with a taser or a Spidey web throw-thingy wouldn't be out of line in this case.
-
I defer to Gramma's wisdom, and er... Monkeyfilter: subduing with a taser or a Spidey web throw-thingy wouldn't be out of line in this case
-
Darn, Pleggy beat me to the first tagline. (and on preview, narrowly scoops it again) MonkeyFilter: Witnessing a butthole being an butthole Thank ye GramMa! *doffs cap, scurries off*
-
-here's a decent one... they try a few PIT manuevers, but dude keeps on truckin. kind of a sad ending, though, if youre the type of person who likes to root for the underdog..
-
Years ago I saw tape of a car chase like this, maybe in Montana, somewhere out west-when the cops stopped the car they shot the perp dead. It was hideous. I prefer the whak-a-baton method. Also, 'nerf baton'. Nice.
-
Oh, you boys. *blushes Guess I better bake some cookies. Or a file in a cake. Whatever's needed.
-
Weed brownies for me!!
-
Not that I think he should have been shot out of hand, but subduing with a taser or a Spidey web throw-thingy wouldn't be out of line in this case. Plegmund and GramMa: I don't think there's much of an issue with whether or not to shoot him, but maybe it's about the lack of a quick break of the window to give him the zap or choke hold that's giving people the itchy trigger finger. I don't know if cops can taze through glass, but I'm surprised these cops don't carry around something like a sock full of nickels to stave in windows with. For myself, watching them try in virtual futility to break the windows didn't speak much about their preparations or considerations of safety in these types of incidents. Maybe by witnessing things like this happening we, like well-trained, armed police, reflexively opt for the "equalizer" as well, even if we would normally and logically argue against it, given enough time. Split second decisions, and all that jazz.
-
A truncheon-t comment, Iggy. Cudgel expand on that thought?
-
As requested (and that was uploaded with a bugmenot youtube login, so don't blame me for any other videos on the same account)
-
Sweet!! ))))) Thanks muchly.
-
Speaking of truncheons... Oh, the innuendo!
-
Doh, that's what you get for using a bugmenot account. Someone has removed it already :(

Relax people, relax. It's back!
