This is a really cool idea. I have to wonder, are the kids still scared of these monsters after they've been redone and shown as clear images? When I was a kid (and even now) the scariest thing about my monsters was that I couldn't define them to deal with them. I had major issues with unknown dangers of the supernatural variety, and I think if I'd been able to make a clear picture it would have helped.

Thanks for those links darling, (the second one is dead), I love seeing things like this.

Not just AWESOME, but WICKED AWESOME. Whare DuDes r scary. R.I.P.

I think the kid's drawings are more scary (and very, scary imaginative.

Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh!! I agree with GramMa; the artists take all the scare out. I think my favorite is the nurse. I used to see a slideshow of these horrible skull faces every time I closed my eyes to sleep as a wee one. I can't clearly remember them anymore.

I love how half the artists interpreting the first drawing saw the vague, pointy yellow shape in the front as vest, and half as a rabbit. Cool link!

Put me in the "I like the originals better" camp. With the artists' versions, I keep waiting for a soundtrack by Danny Elfman to start playing.
-
Well, I guess I'm in the "meh" camp. Most of them didn't convey any of the horror/terror of their inspirations (their very essence), and came off kind of cartoonish.

I like the originals, too. I'm a big fan of outsider art.
