North Korea Fights Famine With Flopsies via WaPo: "North Korean diplomats see a possible solution for their nation's endemic food shortage: an enormous bunny in every pot." Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cottontail are not amused.
  • "They need a varied diet, but they have to be fed like pigs, basically, to get that big." That appears to be a problem, but I'd imagine that any protein over there has to be like gold.
  • I say we invade. The rabbits will greet us as liberators.
  • Kim Jong (and his) Il(k)have never heard of rabbit starvation? It's just a prolonged way of killing his people vs the current rapid way. "Rabbit starvation is the form of acute malnutrition caused by excess consumption of rabbit meat (and possibly other lean meats) coupled with a lack of other sources of nutrients. Symptoms include diarrhea, headache, lassitude, a vague discomfort and hunger that can only be satisfied by consumption of fat or carbohydrate." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rabbit_starvation
  • Gee it's a shame humans haven't figured out an efficient, environmentally responsible, and ethical way to feed everybody yet. Sorry. I had two servings of Cynic-O's this morning
  • Ralph: I say we invade. The rabbits will greet us as liberators. By the time we get there, they'll already have taken over and turned the place into a utopian GiantBunnyistan. There will be nothing left for the humans to do but grow carrots for the overlords.
  • A massive meat farm isn't going to help these people. I like a nice steak myself now and again, but goddamn, these people need food, period, more than they need meat, specifically. What the hell is wrong with veggie protein? If they can raise the produce to feed rabbits, they can for damn sure cook or process the produce to feed the people instead. I honestly can't understand why the entire country hasn't collapsed under its own insanity yet.
  • you're not getting it...the rabbits eat PEOPLE!!!!!
  • Soylent Orange!!!
  • I like the second link, speedlime! Good to know how to defend against a vicious beast of a rabbit without resorting to hand grenades.
  • Thanks, fish tick! Yeah, you want to watch out for those killer rabbits :) Fascinating point about rabbit starvation-- I had never heard of that before. Any nutritionists here? Would hungry Koreans be better off eating the rabbits or just sticking with rabbit food?
  • I'm with clf. Surely it's cheaper to produce soy than giant rabits.
  • Algae or plankton are probably even cheaper.
  • What the fuck is the matter with your people? Our bomb craters will make for perfect trout and carp farms. Just add water!
  • RTD, for a moment there I read that as "trout and crap farms." My brain seems determined to make reading more interesting.
  • Re the second link, I had a childhood friend who owned a house rabbit when we were in college, and one Xmas, her family went away for a few weeks and I watched the house and the rabbit. My mom came over with me one day to see the rabbit, since I was feeding him and checking out his crate area and stuff (he was free to roam around the house, mostly, while his family was away). He did EXACTLY what was described in the link when she tried to pet him, though he never got around to biting her. I've never heard a bunny growl before or since. It's really crazy to witness, if you're used to seeing rabbits in a docile state where they just chew on snacks and hop around lazily. BUNNY RAGE!
