Curious George: Ayahuasca
I've been considering going to South America to take part in an Ayahuasca ceremony for some time now. I can do all sorts of linky-linkies but anyone who knows how to do an internet search can find out what Ayahuasca is, and those who's knowledge I am seeking will not need any links.
What I am wondering is how to contact underground groups that are holding guided Ayahuasca ceremonies in my home town area (greater Southern California).
It's not too hard to order the active ingredients via the web, but I'm not too sure that a self guided trip with a psychoactive of this power is recommended. I'd rather be under the guidence of a experienced Ayahuascero. So, without giving too much away, can anyone point me in the right direction? If need be, you can contact me directly via my email on my profile so as to make it a bit more private. And for those Monkey's who don't know me, even though I don't post all the time, I think I've earned the group's trust here. Thanks, SR

Confused. Are you looking to go to SA or have decided against it and are looking to trip in SoCal?
-
I certainly don't have the knowledge you are looking for, but I think the pool of "experts" you want would be more likely to be found via Google Groups rather than Standard Google, or MoFi. But I could be wrong. Out of 6218 members there may be one who happens to read your question and has the requisite knowledge.

All I've read about going to SA is in this article. I have no idea about SoCal.

stirfry, I am looking for place to do it locally. I'm pretty well traveled in So America (Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, Brazil and Peru) so I have no issue with going there, it's just that I thought that if I could do the "trip" localy, why not? mecurious, I will give the google groups a shot. thanks folks!

Hmmmm, I had to google. First link: I had been vomiting and dry heaving for over two hours, and had several bouts of projectile diarrhea. Lots of cautionary tales to be read. Doesn't sound like something for the faint (or unhealthy) of heart. Careful, Squiddy. And if you do go, I wish you well.
-
projectile diarrhea Yeah, but I took out a lot of terrorists. You fuckers owe me and my anti-missile diarrhoea. Your liberty depends on my arse, and that's a fragile balance.
-
I trust your ass more than I trust Bush.
-
What's a little projectile diarrhea between friends? It's obvious you haven't been to any Los Angeles Mofi meetups.

Magnificent Visions: In Amazonian Peru, the author traces the source of the powerful Stone Age botanical hallucinogen ayahuasca. He meets crying shamans, drunken shamans, and even a gringo shaman, and learns about the epic quest it inspired in one devotee. Then he takes the ultimate step: drinking it himself. Whoa. . .

If there is some help with depression and PTSD, it should be studied. With some *science* behind it, I'd be willing to try it for depression, but as a 'fun' thing to do--- I'll pass on the oneness with the universe, (and puke bucket) thenk you..
