Antarctica Erupts!
A trip to Mount Erebus yields a rare, close-up look at one of the world’s weirdest geological marvels. [Via Digg.]
-
Here's a picture of Erebus from space.
-
And here's a girl in a swimsuit doing a cartwheel in Antarctica.
-
Anything for science, right Hommy?
-
I can't read "Mt Erebus" without thinking "Air New Zealand". Morbid, ain't I?
-
This is cool stuff, but I can't stop wondering why the lava is greenish-blue in the video I watched. Is it just my stupid monitor, or is there some sort of copper element to the stuff that makes it look like glow in the dark silly putty?

Same here, Wolof. So here's a cute little story about a University of Canterbury student who stripped at the Antarctic (in a bar) and now has made a formal public apology.
-
Kiwi officials have been left red-faced by the impromptu strip show which occurred just days before a host of dignitaries including Prime Minister Helen Clark and Sir Edmund Hillary arrived at the base It later emerged that Prime Minister Clarke expelled faeces from her own anus JUST HOURS BEFORE arriving in Antactica.
-
I think it's infared or just low-quality video that makes the blue-green color. Night vision. Something like that. Also, Volcano pr0n.
-
Impromptu stripping, sure, but it amazed me to learn that alcohol was involved.
-
Anything for science.
-
I loved the photos in the second link, particularly of the ice towers and the caves. The lava looks like the ooze left behind by destroyed villains in Ghostbusters.
-
I never thought I'd see Ghostbusters and Antarctica on the same page. Maybe it's too close to my bedtime.

Absolutely beautiful, Hom. Antarctica is a fabulous, magical, treacherous place. I don't think I could descend into the caves, though. Magnificent, but scary places.

Under the Ice: Research Diving in Antarctica
-
Fascinating research, scary to think what the conclusions will be. The immediate scarier thought for me is to think about diving under ice. A solid surface over your head, Unfriendly critters. Stuff you can't breath. COLD. This is the good kind of article I'd like to forward to my friends and relatives regarding their unthinking ignorance of climate change. Doesn't do any good though. Thanks, homs.
