An Associated Press item about the conviction of two poll workers [nytimes] Did anyone notice this? The elections coordinator of Cayahoga County and a ballot manager were convicted of rigging a recount in the 2004 presidential election.
  • There's an echo in here!
  • The prosecutor says that they rigged the recount so that they would not have to spend weeks or months on it. In essence, the prosecutor says that the crime was committed to make the defendants' jobs easier, not to tilt the election in favor of any candidate or influence the outcome in any way.
  • Is it one post for each of the poll workers?
  • stop!
  • Sorry about the duplicate post. I just hit the key twice.
  • Don't worry about it, rdr... it happens. So, they just sped up the process? Skipped over votes?
  • A little more info here.
  • They were supposed randomly select a small sample of ballots and then recount them in public. If the sample's recount did not match the original totals, then a full recount would be done. They picked a sample that they knew would match.
  • This is recockulous! Who would depend on the gullibility, fallibility, and culpability of the poll workers when we have Diebold? *rolls over and over laughing at the idea of an honest election
  • So, does this mean we can give Bush his pink slip?
  • Oh hooo - this one, . . . THIS one people! This is the one that's gonna bring this criminal failure of an administration down like the flaming, smoking wreckage it is!! Ha HA! No really, this is it. All those others will have to wait. People are gonna put a stop to this insanity now.
  • Sadly, this little tidbit of information, which should be shocking but in this day and age isn't, won't change a damn thing. In my own happy, little world, ya know - the one in my head, Bush will be slammed, and slammed hard. He will pay....oh, he will pay. In reality, he will get a library and be lauded a great.......something.
  • Perhaps we should start a monkey militia?
  • I don't believe he'll even be lauded a small something.
  • nunia, I'll have little monkey militia badges embroidered on some dark fleece-lined trench coats if you take care of the footwear. *gives the secret handshake*
  • Only if it's a pacifist militia. A sexy, pacifist militia. With guitars.
  • Why, we wouldn't have it any other way!
  • Here's the thing, Darshon -- Kerry actually benefited from this particular bit of election malfeasance. It may demonstrate how easily elections can be manipulated, but this one won't be the one that brings down anything at all on Bush or any other Republican. They're still ignoring all the really serious fraud. This just makes it LOOK like they're doing something about it.
  • I'm thinkin' two poll workers in jail does not equal a corporate takeover of the polls by Diebold. But then I could be wrong. *lights torch, picks up pitchfork, joins bogus witchhunt
  • A sexy, pacifist militia. With guitars. Sexy? Sure, we can do that. Pacifist? Nah. I'm way too mean and nasty for that. Plus, I like shooting guns, not guitars. *flashes militia gang signs*
  • nunia, we can start the agressive, violent splinter faction...grrrr!
  • High five, girly! Yeah, we could knock over this thread. And they'll beg for more.
  • They're still ignoring all the really serious fraud. This just makes it LOOK like they're doing something about it. True point, hillbillyswamp.
  • Maybe there was a goat on the poll.
