The City Desk covers a non-existent city This first link is via MeFi, but it got me thinking... there are all kinds of wacky imaginary worlds out there. Let's go exploring!
  • When you consider how many authors create their own worlds there sure are a lot of imaginary ones out there.
  • That Bergonia sounds kind of nice, I think I might book my holiday there this year.
  • a Bergonian will sooner or later likely tell you exactly what he thinks of you, albeit with pleasant wit and polite calm. I can see the appeal!
  • I love people-- and not necessarily authors, even-- who can create entire worlds in their heads. Another good one is Carla Speed McNeil's Finder series. She has so many details bouncing around in her skull that she has to put footnootes at the end of every issue, telling you about the slogan on that guy's T-shirt in the second panel of page 12, or the fact that the little lizard you see in the background on page 38 was genetically engineered as part of a marketing campaign, but now he's someone's pet.
