Wow alot of robot posts today. Flipping heck it's a bit freaky. How are either of these robots? My Spoon is not autonomus, and Paro is more of a toy. Iv'e just realized I don't really know what defines something as a robot, maybe Paro really is a robot.

Translation for those having difficulty with their kanji.

Good question random. From the Wiki, A robot is an electro-mechanical or bio-mechanical device or group of devices that can perform autonomous or preprogrammed tasks. A robot may act under the direct control of a human, or autonomously under the control of a programmed computer. I suppose either could fall into that generic definition. When does a toy become a robot? When it gives feedback? Hmmmm...

I think Paro should be able to barf some pre-digested fish once in a while. What, you didn't think of that? On a more serious note, My Spoon is really pretty amazing. I applaud people who design and think of those of us who are far less fortunate. Bravis!

I am afraid of robots. Especially barfing robots. Doesn't that violate First Principle or something?

Overlooked again. :(

Interesting enough paper on the implications of emotional simulations from M.I.T. prof Sherry Turkle.

Japanese Sex Club robot. Actually, the poor thing was a traffic cop in her previous career - robot traffic police being already common in Japan, it seems.
