Peter Boyle dead at 71. Oddly, his lengthy career is overshadowed by Everybody Loves Raymond. So much so that the obit doesn't even mention the funniest bit ever put on film:the "Puttin' on the Ritz" scene.
  • YooToob Ritz scene. Thanks, Capt- I'd forgotten that bit.
  • CR I news-googled "Peter Boyle" and every article that I read mentioned that scene, if that is any consolation. .
  • I liked the scene in Y.F. where he meets the blind hermit. .
  • I didn't know he was ON "Everybody Loves Raymond!" And I admit that for most of my life I've had him mixed up in my mind wioth Christopher Lloyd. But damn, I loved him in Young Frankenstein.
  • I especially liked him as Carl Lazlo in Where the Buffalo Roam, but I enjoyed all his films, including the totally out-there Joe. My favorite bit of his in Young Frankenstein is when he's trying to catch the notes that are being played on the violin.
  • He was also really good in the surprisingly still-current The Candidate. And I'm ashamed to say I had no idea he was in Yellowbeard. .
  • "SEDAGIVE?" Okay, so he didn't do THAT bit, but he was vital to the build-up.
  • Aah. The obit is improved now. Monk? John his best man? What the..?
  • Classic. Thanks, Cap'n.
  • I saw the Frankenstein role mentioned quite prominently in the CNN obituary. I must be the only person on earth who can't stand Everybody Loves Raymond, and dives for the remote the instant I think it might be about to come on. But much love for the performance in Young Frankenstein.
  • I can't stand Raymond either, Lara. Take it as another sign of how we were meant to be together...
  • I bloody hate Raymond with the heated passion of a billion suns and hope that he is cast into the outer darkness upon his death. But his brother is kinda OK. Take that as a sign of "I have anger management issues ..."
  • And I'm really, really sorry that Peter Boyle died. He was in one of the only X-Files episodes that made me cry (Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose).
  • . And indeed, a career worthy of many memorable moments - of which, Young Frankenstein was also one of my personal all-time favorites.
  • .
  • One of the greatest comedy films ever, YF. I'll remember him fondly for that.
  • . Other than Raymond, I liked the cast of Everybody Loves Raymond. Now I know why his dad looked so familiar! *♥ Young Frankenstein*
  • Everything about Raymond on that show reminds me of a two-year-old grinning from ear to ear with pride after he's just shit himself. That said... .
  • . and again . my partner and I make each other laugh by doing impressions of the YF scene...
  • Who’s Afraid of Peter Boyle? Life’s reporter followed Peter Boyle around his West Side Manhattan neighborhood. An excited little old lady approached him: “I agree with everything you said, young man. Someone should have said it a long time ago.” Construction workers shouted, “Joe!” and greeted him like a long-lost friend. Boyle was horrified.
  • Nuttin' wrong wit' shootin' hippies. *POP* *POP* *POP* Heehee!! Lookit 'em scramble!
  • Ow! Socialized medicine! Socialized medicine!
  • It's a shame. They're more fun than buffalo.
  • I saw all of these new comments on this post and thought that Peter Boyle had come back to life. But wouldn't that be more appropriate as an fpp? Isn't the New Testament really just a giant fpp?
  • If the New Testament had been an FPP, the first Gospel would have been rejected as a self link, and the rest would have been rejected as doubles.
